Hi everyone! Part of being part of a team is to get to know each other so I've started this thread where we can just chat.

Its not for posting new listings (there are separate threads for that) but just so that we can chat.

Anyone interested?

It doesn't have to be about crochet either. It can be about anything at all!

Re: General Team Chat for August

I'm in Maine, waiting for Hurricane Irene to hit us on Sunday. Gotta batten down the hatches!

DineinStyle says

Can anyone recommend a trust worthy site to build personal websites on?
I want to have my own website, in order to sell all items that aren't allowed to be sold on Etsy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm curious. What items can't you sell on Etsy?

Re: General Team Chat for August

Hi KnittyLittle Secret:

Before I knew much about vintage and research, I had purchased many items that I had assumed were vintage---only to find out I was completely wrong and had to quickly remove them from my shop on here.

Clothing, dinnerware, books, etc, etc. You name it, I have it, but don't know much about it. So rather than run the risk of listing something incorrectly, I would much rather setup a personal website of my own to see these items.

Re: General Team Chat for August

Oh okay, because I was starting to wonder about what was allowed and what wasn't.

What about kijiji? It's at least free to post the items, unlike eBay/Etsy?

I don't know anything about personal sites, sadly. It's why I'm here. I figure it's probably cheaper to list on Etsy than to have my own site.

Re: General Team Chat for August

DineinStyle,

Have you considered eBay? That's the place most people would go to look for those types of items.

Here in the desert southwest we are in the 7th day of what was supposed to have been a 4 day heat wave. Our low temp last night was 93F and our high today was 117F ! Right now we would gladly split our weather with that of the East coast.

For those of you affected by hurricane Irene, please stay safe!

Re: General Team Chat for August

What about a blog? I don't know if you can link a shop to purchase items on a blog, though, but facebook does have a new dashboard payment store thingy. So you could link the blog to the facebook page and be able to sell that way.

I have to be selfish and pray that Irene doesn't mess up my wedding plans. We're getting married this Wednesday (I'm currently feeling like a headless chicken) and it's in our backyard so I'm kind of hoping Irene doesn't make an appearance or make it rain.
That being said, I DO hope everyone in her path remains safe. I grew up on PEI (small Island on east coast of Canada for those that don't know) and we had lots of tropical depressions and cat. 1 hurricanes (as well as terribly wicked snowstorms) that would fizzle out but they always brought lots of rain and messed with the electricity. So don't forget to fill your tub with water as well as all deep pots.

Crochetgal....YIKES! Is it humid, too? I don't mind 90s but it's the humidity that kills me. (When I moved to Toronto I'd never heard of the word "humidex". Boy I learned real quick what that is!!)

Re: General Team Chat for August

Knitty, thanks for all your help.

Hopefully Irene won't give you any problems at all. It seems like she's settled down.

We actually are one of the driest climates around. When the temps are as high as they are, we end up running a 'swamp cooler' (humidifier) to try to get some moisture into the air. Our humidity levels run between 10 & 20% most of the time.

One advantage is that long hair dries in minutes, you never are soaked with perspiration as everything evaporates so fast. The downside is that if you feel thirsty, you are probably dehydrated.

Lotion companies love the Southwest!

Re: General Team Chat for August

It's so good to be back. Good morning, everyone! I was supposed to go to one funeral, and ended up going to two, as another friend died within days of the first. Then got home in NC in time to pack to evacuate, running away from Irene. Thankfully, we had no damage, other than water in the street - but 7 inches of rain at the beach will do that.

These are some of my newest listings

Hi I am new to this team. I do believe everything in my shop is made with yarn or thread. Most off the items I have made the pattern myself and most reflect my geeky nature. Please take a look would love to hear any comments and or feedback :)

Re: General Team Chat for August

I think we're all hoping that sales will pick up during the holiday season. I've been selling a lot of yarn, but would really love to sell my work too. So since it sells, I'm destashing yarn to make room for the next order coming in this week

Re: General Team Chat for August

nope, didn't make the goal but that's OK, the fact that i came within one is great. i've made more sales between march and august than i did all last year.
it's due to many things including spending more time here than in live shows but also i think the search changes and changing my tags and titles have made a big difference. the traffic to my site has exploded!!

Re: General Team Chat for August

Congrats to both Designbcb and DaisyaDayCrochet on your sales! That's absolutely fantastic!

Congrats to KnittyLittleSecret on the wedding! Hope everything went just as planned! Will you be posting photos somewhere?

Does anyone on the team use eyelash yarn or Bernat Boa? I've got a huge pile here (about 20 lbs) that I'm willing to let go for a few $$$ plus the price of the postage.
