Freebies for buyers?

Good morning,

I recently read somewhere on Etsy, can't remember where, about including a freebie/thank you gift when mailing items to your buyers.

Does anyone do this, and if so, what do you include?
I've been wracking my brain (what little is left of it) and can't come up with anything.
Thanks,
Margaret

Re: Freebies for buyers?

I have added a freebie but do not do it all the time. I did for my first sale and first repeat customer sale. I added a dishcloth the first time and the second I added a new dishcloth scrubbie that I just started making but did not post any yet.

I will not make a habit - it would be nice to hear a thank you for the freebie but never did.

Re: Freebies for buyers?

Some people do include 'freebies' but not all.

Personally I'd much prefer that my purchases arrive in one piece and fairly quickly. Nothing beats great customer service.

But when I'm purchasing soaps on Etsy, I really appreciate the tiny soap slivers that some sellers will include in the package. Those can really tempt me to purchase other scents.

If I'm sending a package to a 'regular' customer (ie someone who has spent a fair bit of money in the shop) I'll quite often include something extra related to their purchase. That could be anything from one of my small yarn pins to a ball of yarn that I know they would like.

For my regular soapdish customers I'll usually include one or 2 extra pieces in the larger boxes.

Just remember that 'freebies' aren't really free. You have to absorb that cost somewhere in your business.

A few things I would NOT include are anything scented (allergies), candy (allergies and the fact that candy can melt) or anything with glitter. Glitter is an absolute bear to get rid of.

Re: Freebies for buyers?

I will almost always include a similar item that I could make for the customer in the future. For example, I made a custom order of snowflakes for a customer who wanted to make them into earrings, I included a small flower she could use for earrings as well, but only one.

I put in some candy, not many acknowledge it so I wonder if it's worth putting it in!

Re: Freebies for buyers?

i used to put in an extra little knitted goodie but switched over to candy. The candy got great reviews but lately I haven't done anything. I am thinking about putting the candy back but i just purchased something from another shop and all i got was the item and I didn't think anything about it.

i'm not sure it makes a difference either way,
