shipping upgrade and dc

with paypal when someone wants a shipping upgrade we can invoice them for it. what do we do with direct checkout if someone wants a shipping upgrade? we can't invoice them, right? we can't do a listing for a shipping upgrade?

I agree with you. We definitely need a way to invoice for shipping upgrades. As it stands now, I have no idea how we would handle that.

Draw a picture, or use a penny made before 1993.

One's considered handmade, the other is vintage. Those are both Etsy legal, just be sure to send the picture or penny. List something like that with the expedited shipping price and you can combine the two orders.

Hopefully there is a better solution, but that is the only one I can think of at the moment.

From what I read in another post, it is against policy to have listings for upgraded shipping, etc.

so back to my question. how do we accommodate our direct checkout customers if they want a shipping upgrade since we can't charge their credit card? help!!!

but if they are using direct checkout as their preference then why should we have to ask them to now use paypal? they may not have paypal, want to use paypal, or be out of their guest checkouts.

if we can't provide them with full service then there are flaws that need to be addressed. this is not that much of an out of the ordinary request.

Etsy really needs to figure out how to send an invoice for these type things. Even if the seller sends a pay pal invoice then etsy loses that part of the sale. Seems like this would be high on importance for etsy to figure out.

This happened to me this week and my customer does not have a paypal account and was at her limit to use her credit card with paypal.. She wanted Priority Mail International.

I made a reserved listing for her without saying what it was for. Doesn't the customer come first?

sherry I would have done the same thing. I really wish we could get an answer to this question or more importantly a solution to this obvious problem.

Well it just happened again and I am going to use my Square for the shipping until we can invoice.

Sherry I'm not a rule bender either, but sometimes you just have to bend one in order to get the job done.

I really, really wish we would hear from one of the team leaders on this issue. We aren't asking for the impossible, just a simple solution to an obvious oversight in the DC system.

I think the problem is not in the DC system, but the rules in general, as they say it is against policy to have more than one payment for an item no matter how it is paid for.

etsy is beta testing some shipping improvements, don't know if upgrades are coming but you can join the team to test them

Set up a reserved listing for $.20 (the minimum you can can charge) and put the shipping amount in the shipping section. The customer can then purchase the listing and pay with their credit card.

Alice that is a work-around solution, but it is also against the TOUs. That is why we are asking for the ability to create an invoice for upgraded shipping charges.

I understand that and it's disappointing that even though Etsy is aware of the problem and has been for a long time, they have not come up with a solution.

Down payments of large custom orders is important for many many sellers and has been for year.

Shipping upgrades have been important for many buyers and has been for years.

I suppose sending a Paypal invoice for the shipping upgrade would work and the customer can pay for it with their credit card that way. Kind of a long way around the situation.

Not sure if this would work as it is a pain in the butt but could you cancel the sale and then relist it with the added on shipping. I know a pain.

Alice, My customer doesn't have a paypal account, is in the UK and was at her limit to pay by credit card on Paypal. We tried that.

Being able to invoice for shipping is imperative. I know there are work arounds that are not etsy legal.

Additionally it is not professional and has been an embarrassment. I won't be able to continue with DC at the holidays if this is not corrected.

I am a member of the shipping improvements team. I don't really see anything like shipping choices that you find on regular websites.

@Jen, thanks. Time was of the essence and I did think of that, but waiting for 48 hours for her to be refunded and then relisting the sale wouldn't work.

This is something that should have been worked out before they unrolled it.... We have to be able to invoice customers for extra shipping and lets say an extra bead.
