refunding could use some changes

I love almost everything about Direct Checkout so far, but I have to say that the refunding part doesn't work well. Most of my orders include more than one item and often the refund is only for shipping overcharges. Is there anyway that the refunding part can be changed so that sellers can just write in the amount to be refunded, rather than having to edit the price of each item?

Oh dear, I process frequent shipping refunds too, maybe up to a dozen or more a month; are you saying that you are only able to refund an item's price? I just got signed up with DC today, so haven't had the opportunity to use that function yet...

thanks!

Hi Randi,
There's a field in the refund page that just says shipping - with the amount that was paid for shipping. You can zero out the other fields and just refund from that box if you prefer. Does that work?

Re: refunding could use some changes

I had a customer that bought 4 items, but he did 2 at a time. There was $4.50 shipping on each and I wanted to refund him $5 shipping for the 2.

My only choice was to refund $4.50 shipping and .50 from the cost of the items.
The only other way was to do the extra 50 cents on the other invoice, which wouldn't have made any sense to the buyer.

Could we write in a higher shipping amount than what is printed on the invoice?

Interesting, thanks for detailing out this situation. One of the reasons that we split out the refund page the way we do is that currently, transaction fees are not assessed on the shipping or tax, so if you refund from there, there's no transaction fee to refund; whereas if you refund from the item price, there are transaction fees to refund. We can look into ways to meet your needs though.

Thanks Camilla, it wasn't a huge problem, just a little confusing at first.

Re: refunding could use some changes

Camilla,

I think it would be more beneficial to have the option to refund one amount without clearing out all of the prices and shipping costs. Any customer that buys 3+ items on my site (which is quite often) needs a shipping refund. Also, if someone can't figure out how to use one of my coupon codes at checkout (this is about 25% of people) need a refund. It takes a lot of extra time to refund each item bought.

Maybe a button that says ISSUE REFUND with a field for adding an explanation or message to the customer would be great.

Other than that, I LOVE the direct checkout. Quite a few people are using it in my shop!

Thanks,

Randi :)
