combine shipping

I received two orders from the same buyer, my first purchase through DC. Can I combine the items into one shipping box and save the buyer $ on shipping costs? If I do this I will only be printing one shipping label and don't know if by doing this the other item will appear to not have been shipped. Thanks for your advice!

Re: combine shipping

You should be able to go into sold orders and manually mark it as shipped I would think.

Re: combine shipping

I think I've seen this before where Etsy considers each item purchased to be an order. For example - if a customer orders two things, Etsy will display it has 2 orders when it is really one order from one customer. Unless the customer made two separate purchases in your shop. Then that is a totally different thing.

When you click on "Sold Order," you'll see your open orders - then click on the "receipt #" and that should allow you to view the entire order. You can print your label from there and mark both items as shipped if going to the same address. I would definitely place them in the same box to save on shipping. Not sure if there is a way to refund part of the shipping money back thru DC. But if you are uncertain about combining the shipping, you can always ask the customer if they want it in the same box.

Hope that helps and it wasn't too confusing ;o)

Re: combine shipping

Seems like a strange question to ask. Of course you can ... unless the buyer has asked you not to! I've not met a buyer yet who doesn't appreciate saving a few $$ on shipping.

If you don't have the secondary shipping set up, you might want to consider doing that. The only "catch" is that you need to be sure to have the same shipping timeframe for all your items. If you were to sell 2 items to a customer and one had 3-day shipping and the other had 5-day shipping, Etsy WILL treat those as separate sales ... and the customer would be charged primary shipping on each item.

Re: combine shipping

Of course you could still ship the items together, but you might want to check with the customer and see if they need their purchases within 3 days!

Re: combine shipping

If it was an international sale, check with your buyer first. They might have made two purchases, so thT the package does not go over a certain amount that will allow them to be exempt from customs fees. for them, the extra shipping charge might be less than the duty in the items.

Re: combine shipping

The only issue I worry about when shipping two order together, is if there should be a dispute, you will not be able to show shipment and tracking for both orders. While this does not seem to be a problem here at this point, I keep thinking back to all of the scams and things that were going on across the street before I left. (big auction site).

Re: combine shipping

That's a good point griffincat. I wonder if you get confirmation from a buyer to send both in one package, through a convo, if that would count for seller protection?

I've never had someone buy two separate items that weren't in the same order though. Wonder how often that happens?

Re: combine shipping

I have had a couple of people buy things and then two hours later buy something else and want it sent together. It does happen once in a while and is a good thing. So far no issues, and yes, maybe the convo from buyer would hold up if they should dispute delivery.
