Was solicited to feature an item on a site called pinkEpromise.com

I was solicited to feature a craft item on a site called "pinkEpromise.com...." Because I'm quite the "noob" to selling on Etsy, and I have never heard of them before, I was wondering if any of the team members have heard of them. If so, are they legitamate, (the w-9 that they requested has a lot of sensative information to share), and can you point me in the right direction to do some research on them before I consider the offer....thanks, LG

At Lucinda, recently I got contacted by thespotteddoor.com to sell there, they asked the same, I have visited the website and it looks legit, still I haven't provided the documents yet...

Lucinda -- I've never heard of that site before this, but it & the foundation it donates to look legit. BUT as a rule of thumb, never give out information you feel uncomfortable with. It is a red flag for me that they just want your sensitive, personal info out of the blue. We don't need to provide w-9 forms to sell on Etsy. Also, be aware that daily deal sites often aren't a good deal for the Etsy seller -- the deal site wants you to sell for so little money that you can't make a profit. Not saying that is the case here, but do make sure that you always make a profit, no matter where you sell. You can't stay in business if you're losing money.

Re: Was solicited to feature an item on a site called pinkEpromise.com

I live in MInnesota and W9 aren't requested...We only provide our tax ID for tax purposes..when we are selling in a craft show. But on the internet...?
.I had some one contact me wanting me to send them free samples that they could show on YOU Tube. I thought =thanks for the idea
I think Elizabeth is correct. If they are asking for sensitive stuff it can be a phising site. Call the BBB, FTC and your state Attorney General's office-In our state the Attorney General's website has a list of internet scams. If you get a check follow your intuition:)

I agree with Charlotte Minogue ( Above ). Call the BBB, FTC and if you have a Chamber of Commerce, give them a call. Be careful, make certain they are legit. Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone for your insight. Your advice was very helpful.....I knew little to nothing about W-9 and now. I feel a little better after researching that subject and using some of your suggestions as starting points for more information. You all really helped out....!

I agree with Charlotte, an I will say this: Lucinda, trust your gut ! It seems like you were already getting a "maybe I shouldn't do this" kind of vibe. I have found fraud and all kinds of phishing scams while doing business. It is just part of it now. Attorney General and BBB are a good place to start. But... they do not know everything. I have never joined the BBB, it is not a 'merit' based site, basically anyone can pay to be on there. When I found that out, I crossed it off my list.
I had an elaborate order inquiry via email and contacted the chamber, city where I was doing business and my bank, I finally found the information I wanted on the scam by typing on my browser looking for information. snopes.com
Good luck

I have been featured on a few sites and have never been asked for personal info..that just sounds shady to me..granted they were featured on fb but I don't think that should matter..none the less as sayed above never share info if you don't feel comfy....
