Don't know if it has been talked about before, but I would like to see a way to not have money deposited before our etsy bill is paid. I know this sounds wrong to some of you, and it use to be that way, so maybe an option to opt-in or out. But I rarely sell anything anymore, and just had my money deposited into my bank, and then printed the label, and now owe etsy $5, when they just paid me. I don't know, just seems like a lot of unnecessary transactions.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Oh heavens, YES PLEASE! It's heart-stopping to get your Etsy bill at the end of the month and see that it's for over $75...and then realize it's because you had that much DC shipping. Seriously, since the funds sit there for a day or two anyway, why not just have the option of having them sit there until the package is marked shipped so you can deduct your shipping costs from your pool of money.
That said, for me at least it would need to be a toggle; when I do down payments on custom orders, there is no shipping cost and I need those funds available for purchasing supplies. I'm sure there's a way to make it more convenient for everyone.

How can you immediately buy postage before you wrap and weigh your package??

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

@Donna, not sure what you're asking, but maybe this will help:

When I list an item, I select the container that I will use to ship it, and I place the item in the container, add a sheet of tissue paper and a couple of sheets of copy paper (because I will enclose 2 print-outs) and I weigh that. Then I go to USPS and select "calculate postage", fill in the service I want (First Class or Priority Mail), the type of container, the size and weight, and I type in a Florida zip code (that's the farthest place from Seattle where I ship from) and I get the required postage. Then I do the same for any countries that I will ship to. Then I can fill in the shipping cost for that item. I don't buy the postage until the items sold and I ship it. At that point I can print the label thru Etsy if it's direct checkout or PayPal if it's Paypal checkout, or go to the P.O. and pay for it there.

If your items that you list are all similar, like my knit hats all weigh about the same, under 13 ounces, that makes it easy, I always use the same containers and I don"t have to weigh them until I ship them. But if your items are all different shapes and sizes and weights, you have to do the calculations for each one. I hated that when I sold all vintage items!

Hope this helps ;-)

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Most the time I purchase my shipping lables directly from the USPS website. It is cheaper for Priority mail & First Class Intl to buy it there. I like the DC just the way it is ~ :)
