Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Don't know if it has been talked about before, but I would like to see a way to not have money deposited before our etsy bill is paid. I know this sounds wrong to some of you, and it use to be that way, so maybe an option to opt-in or out. But I rarely sell anything anymore, and just had my money deposited into my bank, and then printed the label, and now owe etsy $5, when they just paid me. I don't know, just seems like a lot of unnecessary transactions.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I'm with you VaLon. I thought the same thing after my last DC. I realize lots of people may not like this, so the ability to opt in/out would probably be in the best interests of everyone involved. For me, it would be easier as far as keeping track of expenditures. :)

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I totally agree. I'd at least like the option to pay my Etsy bill from my shop payment account. Even if I have to do it manually. When I go to pay my bill, if I had the option to click my shop account instead of just paypal or credit card. How great would that be?!

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Sign me up; I hate having to pay a separate bill after the money has been deposited in my bank account. On the other hand, it's not much different than if our buyer pays by Paypal, and then we have to pay the bill for Etsy fees. Sure would be nice if it could all be done within one account though. You'd think that would be one of the intentions Etsy had in mind when creating direct checkout.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

makes sense, and I know lots of people asked about the possibility when DC first came out...wish we had a magic wand to make it happen...

Yes, please! It's way too confusing and a headache around tax time!

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I agree Wendy, it isn't that much different than fees. However, I typically only pay less than $2 on my fees, except I just paid for shipping too, and it is now and extra $5. I budget in those fees, but not shipping, because the customer pays for shipping, so it would be nice to take it out of the money that was paid shipping, not added to my fees for the end of the month. If the customer pays with paypal, I use paypal to ship the item, and it just takes it out of paypal. Anyways....

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I think the best way to handle it would be to allow us to have total control over our deposits as PayPal. This way you can save up for certain payments and after making them, request the money.

Yes, yes! It's so inefficient now.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

That would be great I always feel like im just recycling funds. Or at least have an option to keep the shipping payment in my shop account.

That way I have one less thing going out of my actual paypal or bank account.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Having to pay shipping after the fact is very inefficient and doesn't make good business sense. It makes book keeping a nightmare, it drives me crazy because shipping is counted as income. Why can't it be separate like fees?
It makes no sense at all.

Please Etsy will you make this improvement!!

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Another vote to set up DC like Paypal, where we have control of when and how much to deposit!

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I like the idea of being able to maintain a balance in my Etsy account for labels and my Etsy bill. I use to leave a balance in my paypal account for that very purpose. Most of my sales now are with direct deposit so there is no way to set aside money.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I just started selling on Etsy two months ago. I, too, am finding the inability to pay for shipping labels, *at the time I print them* directly from my etsy payment account an accounting nightmare!

If I print a label through paypal, or even directly through USPS, it is paid for at the time it is printed, not billed weeks later. It is very confusing to have one particular point of sale not on the same system as the rest of e-sales.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I would much rather take the shipping label cost right out of the money from the sale than have to pay it later...silly to me & you account balance just goes up & up!

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Me too, with my accounting background, it makes my brain crazy the way the funds are handled. It's a challenge to me to separate out the selling fees from the monthy bill, the shipping charges, how the net funds they send me are calcjulated. I guess I'll get it straight by tax time but it's a long learning curve.

I notice that since I signed up (reluctantly) for direct checkout, all of my sales are paid by DC. I think it's because it's the default setting, buyers have to pay close attention at checkout if they want to use PayPal.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I haven't used Direct Checkout yet. Do you have to buy postage from Etsy or can you purchase from post office?

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

I agree that accounting wise, it doesn't make sense the way it currently is. I would definitely put it high on my wish list that the shipping fees be taken out at point of service. Once I hit that pay and print button, the fee for the label should be immediately deducted.

I think if this was available, more sellers would use the system. As it is now, there are hundreds of sellers that only utilize the Etsy shipping for international only.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

@Donna, you can always ignore the Etsy label and go straight to USPS online, yes, and print a label. If you haven't done that before, you have to create an acct, but that's easy.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

...but not sure about Seller Protection. I don't worry about that because I insure my packages through Shipsurance, it's much cheaper than USPS or Etsy.

Re: Taking shipping out of our direct checkout payments

Oh, If you use First Class, you can't get that service at USPS online, only at the P.O. In my experience.
