Option of preferred payment

I have finally given in and have both of my shops accepting DC. I only did it because of the backlash I expect for shops not accepting it and customers wanting to use the gift certificates.

That said - I want the option to make PayPal my "FIRST" choice of payment not DC. I believe that people don't really pay attention to the fact they have a choice and just go ahead and fill in all the necessary information for the DC. I have been startled every time this has happened to me thinking something has happened to my PayPal information.

I don't want to have to keep paying up my Etsy fees everytime I go to print a shipping label. I pay my fees once a month (when Etsy bills us) with my PayPal and since it has been this way all the years I've been selling I want to keep it that way.

What is the reason for the difference? Is it to build up the Etsy coffer? If Etsy is going to require dues be paid up to a certain balance then it should be that way for everyone. NOT that I want it to change. Why not deduct the fees at the time of each sale? PayPal does.

Anyway! I just want to be able to mark which payment I prefer in my shops so that is the first option my buyers see.

As I understand it, for your shop to accept gift cards, they need to use DC to redeem the card, not paypal? I am hoping the gift card will bring in some sales. It doesn't matter to me how the customer pays or what option they see first.

I would also like to set Paypal as my *first* choice for payment, and offer DC as a second choice.

My income stream has been solely Paypal to this point and from an accounting standpoint I have been really happy with everything all in one place.

I just happened to have an empty savings account to put my DC money into. I am fortunate enough to have a cushion in PayPal to tide me over for the 10 day hold. I may use my DC money to pay my Etsy fees and then see where I'm at.

I had 2 sales right after initiating DC and wonder if they would have been PayPal. I don't feel comfortable asking either. :(

And I being the different character that I am, shut off paypal earlier this week. Sales are coming like they always had back when we only accepted paypal, and also whem we accepted both. It feels good to be free of paypal and doing business with someone I trust.

I like the idea as well of having a preferred payment, I also feel that it is purposely designed the way it is so people go for the direct checkout, it's the first thing you see. I'm accepting both as well due to feeling like I wasn't getting promoted as much and the whole gift card thing. I personally feel more comfortable not having everything controlled by Etsy, it has really tied up my cash flow, and made it very difficult.

I also like the idea of having a "preferred method of payment," because sometimes I think people use DC just because it's the first option during the checkout process. I signed up because I want to be able to accept the Etsy gift cards.

The whole direct checkout is making a sort of "double accounting" problem for me, because now I have to track both methods, fees, and shipping. Is anyone else getting a bit of a headache from that?
