Marking shipped??

I just had my second Dc payment today and I was wondering why after you print a label through Etsy does it automatically mark it shipped and then it emails the customer that it has shipped. Is there a way around marking it shipped and it sending the customer a quick email. I like to fill my orders usually on the day I get the order but the post office may not be open to ship it right then. I also like to send a better email to the customer with more details and tracking number. I guess what I am asking is do I have to wait to print the labels on the day that I plan to ship it or can I do it the evening before and is there a way to stop that email from being sent on the day before it ships. Thank you!!

I was hoping there was a shipping date you could fill in on DC to say when it will ship? I know you can print the label the day before and ship it the next day but as far as giving notification to the customer that it has shipped, maybe not?

Paypal has this feature available but you have to ship within a certain time frame to use the label. It just notifies the customer that a label has been created, not that the package has shipped. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Of course they could always use the tracking number to see when it really was shipped but I doubt customers will do that.

The thing that doesn't make sense is when your printing the label it does ask what day it will ship and todays label I marked it for Monday the 24th and it still says it has shipped even though it won't get shipped till tomorrow and it sent a convo to the customer saying it has shipped.

I think you should also post this problem in the Shipping Improvements Team. This is just not right and could be very misleading to the customer.

I always include a note when I create the label to say the exact date I am shipping it and the expected arrival time, and ask them to tell me when it arrives safely, how they like it, etc. That could help.

One of the many reasons why I print my own Post office delivery/insurance receipts as well as the package label. Time consuming but personalized. Each buyer receives a personal note after posting with details. All systems have "bugs" to be worked out however its still better than using Paypal.

Jennifer, I just now (Sunday, the 23rd) printed a first class international label and dated it for Monday. The mailing label - customs form also printed the date of the 24th (Monday) on it.

I LOVE DC and when I print out my labels here I also send a message to my buyer letting them know what day the item is going to ship.
Example got an order on Saturday AFTER mail had ran and late at night . ... I boxed it up and printed out label with a note to buyer that it would be sent out with Monday's mail ... oh and thanking them for the order.
Now this is the very same thing I do on paypal labels and then I send a note to the buyer here.

Well i had my first with DC thursday and I marked as shipped to start the process but i boxed it and I always print my own labels for my logo. And when i check the $ in the shop payment acc i shipped it and i sent right away an e-mail to the customer with a tracking number. Now i just hope to get the money without delays or any problem. I do not know if the customer gets any convo or mail when we mark as shipped. But the best we cand do is always be in contact with the customer when we ship the package. I had my second order with DC this morning and i will try printing the etsy label i just hope no regreting about this. My question is Doing this do i have to know the cost of the postage or anyway i have to go to the post office and pay there?

Just tell the customer in the comment box during the DC shipping / printing process what day the item will actually ship. (Just re-read the posts and someone already mentioned this.)

I also include a note asking them to look at my photo jewelry and include a link to that section! They should be able to click on the link when they get their email.

The DC shipping / printing process is so easy. The customer is sent the email with information and the tracking number so you don't have to do that manually.

The labels are definitely not as pretty - they look just like the PayPal labels, but I think that has more to do USPS. It would be nice if we could all have our pretty logos on the labels - in color! :0)

You don't pay at the post office. When you create a label from etsy shipping, you pay the postage cost, it's right there on the label. All you have to do is tape it to the package and send it. I drop my packages in the big blue usps box. If you want to know what the postage you paid is, just look in your "shop payment account" for the details.

The best thing about the etsy shipping is that you won't have to go to the post office and stand in line.

I do not like the fact that etsy tells the customer that the item has shipped when you print the label either. I sent out several packages yesterday, but I printed them up sunday night. Why can't etsy let us send the notice ourselves like they do for a paypal label? I think that this will mislead some customers and cause them to be upset if etsy tells them its been shipped, but we are not actually putting it in the mailbox until next day.
