Re: Layaway

Good question Jill. I've seen people do this several ways, but none of them are what I'd call satisfactory. I guess the best way is to post a Reserved listing for partial payment and show that you have 4 of them at $50 each. Kind of like a deposit on a custom order.

Re: Layaway

Hi Jill! At this time, direct checkout doesn't offer an invoice option, but we hope to address this soon. In the meantime, if you and your buyer agree that the order can be paid in installments, we recommend that you have "Other" selected as a payment method. This will allow your buyer to choose this option when completing checkout and will not require payment at that time.

Once you've worked out the details of the payment plan, you can send an invoice for the payments. This help article can assist you:

Re: Layaway

Take a look at my shoppe - sold orders.
I had a customer who really wanted the antique black scale; but could not afford the $80. price tag all at once.

I conversed with her; and we agreed on a 3 payment plan. I did 3 separate listings with the payments broken down on each.

I didn't know how else to do it; and it worked out just fine for both of us.

So, the buyer makes one payment but how do they make the remaining payments? I suppose through paypal invoicing? It could all be detailed like a contract in the original listing they would make the first payment with. You could also say that paypal invoicing will follow at such and such a date. Is that the idea?

Could you mark it as shipped through DC after the listing contract is purchased? Of course, I would expect that the listing would state that the item shipping would take place upon final payment. Would this work?

Re: Layaway

Mary, when they purchase the first one, the number available becomes 3, and so on. The buyer can choose how many installments to purchase each time until all 4 are purchased. She/He can pay $50 each time, and it will be a different sale for the seller.

Re: Layaway

The problem I see here, is if there is a dispute how will you show different delivery confirmations for each payment? It is not a simple thing to do, and one that is a grey area I believe.

Re: Layaway

This discussion occurred in 2012. Has anything happened since then? I have a client who wishes to buy a necklace in two payments but the item wouldn't be sent out to her until it was pd for.
