Jump in sales?

I am new to DC & the team. I was hesitant to try it since I am so used to funds being immediately available with Paypal & I already accepted credit cards through Paypal anyway. However, I know a lot of people don't like Paypal for one reason or another, so I thought DC might boost my sales a bit. With sales so slow in the summer months I figure it is worth a try :) Has anyone noticed a boost in their overall sales or have your sales just shifted from paypal to DC?

Re: Jump in sales?

I'm not all that crazy about the way Etsy has the credit card shop payment set up either, especially having to wait 3 days and then only deposits once a week.
But, I think my sales have improved, especially the big ticket items.

Re: Jump in sales?

I have had DC for about two and a half months now and I honestly do not see the difference in my sales. 75% of my customers still use PayPal and the 25% that use DC still make similar sized purchases as thier PayPal counterparts. Knowing what I know as a seller, when I go to buy from another Etsy shop I always use PayPal. I just don't want the seller waiting for their money.

Re: Jump in sales?

My last 5 sales have all been DC. And I had an all time sales high this month. I finally got 80 items in my shop! Going for the 100 mark.. Considering I do all the sewing myself it's a wow factor for me.

Re: Jump in sales?

I haven't been here over a year yet to know what is normal and not, but I have about 50% DC and 50% PayPal usage.

Re: Jump in sales?

Just this week DC was activated in my shop so time will tell if it is helpful to my sales or not. I have been hesitant to start DC, but decided if it is the difference for a customer to buy or not, then I need to be "customer friendly".

Re: Jump in sales?

The big difference I have noticed with DC is the larger number of international sales. I would say our international orders have doubled with the ablilty to take DC. This is showing me that paypal is not as widely used in other countries as it is here, so a good addition with the ability to us DC. Shipping is always more complicated and not as safe and secure, but all risks associated with being in business. I would not want to be without them, as they make up a good percentage of our sales now.

Re: Jump in sales?

Thanks for your input everyone! I really hope it works out well too.

@Kim Brooks-i thought it gave customers another payment option too & would hopefully make my shop more customer friendly like you said.

@griffincat-that is a very good point that I hadn't thought of! Maybe ill see an increase in international sales. I usually only ship to Canada because of the shipping difficulties I've encountered but maybe I should think about expanding to other countries.

Re: Jump in sales?

Uturn, you can have deposits made from your DC acct to your bank acct just by clicking the deposit earlier button. Etsy will deposit on Monday's unless you request earlier deposits.

Re: Jump in sales?

I'm not seeing an increase, and all of my stats have been lower than last year. but there could be so many reasons for that.

Re: Jump in sales?

At first I was a bit unhappy with the process of DC, and had sales, but did not like the wait of the funds being deposited, but now restarted DC and sales are fabulous, 8 sales in 1 week, Paypal purchases are very slow. now worth the wait...try it....

Re: Jump in sales?

About 90% of my customers have chosen DC, and I just had my best month ever (even better than December), which just so happens to be the month I added DC to my shop. Perhaps it's coincidence, perhaps not, but my sales are definitely up.

It could possibly be the nature of what you're selling, too. My demographic tends to be older people who found me by googling, so it's likely they're less comfortable with Paypal.

Re: Jump in sales?

I have seen immediate sales as soon as I started using DC and have had a minor problem which was corrected quickly with a little guidance, I am happy with DC and the help I received when needed.

Re: Jump in sales?

Thanks again everyone! @Laura-That is something I hadn't thought of! I have had a few sales already using DC. I find I'm not minding the delay. I have already confirmed my bank account, so far so good. I do see what others were saying about refunds/canceling transactions. I recently started a sale & wasn't thinking when I did a special order for a customer the day before the sale started. When she mentioned it on my facebook page I realized what happened. I was going to refund her the percentage but couldn't so I just sent her a free gross & she was happy.

Re: Jump in sales?

Hello, I'm not sure about the boost in sales but for your its better than being directed to Paypal. Now what Etsy needs to change here is to allow individuals to enter the site without signing up directly on Etsy.

If I do a search for an item on say google and I see something on a website I usually will back out of the site if I need to register. I just don't want more emails ect. So I am sure more buyers would buy if they could just purchase and pay direct with a credit card during check out.

Why is it you need to become a member if you see something crafty you want to buy. You may not be a crafty shopper all the time. Just a thought.
There are other craft sites can't mention names but you do not need to register so I would be apt to buy there I was say searching handmade CATS.

Direct Check is a great change and for sure draws in more sales.

Re: Jump in sales?

@Kathy: I think your idea of allowing people to buy without registering is a wonderful idea. I, too, find registering for yet another site to be off-putting.

Many, many of my sales are to first-time buyers, and it makes me wonder how many potential new buyers didn't buy because they didn't want to register.

Re: Jump in sales?

@Kathy & Laura-I agree & again it is something I hadn't thought of! I am very suspicious of having to register of sites & entering my credit card info unless it is a site I am familiar with.

So far, since I signed up June 28th with DC, I have had 8 sales. 5 of those have paid with DC instead of Paypal. I do seem to be getting more traffic to my store since signing up with DC, whether that is coincidence or people like having another payment option available has yet to be seen.

So far I like it!
