Having trouble with addresses not being complete or accurate

Jump to solution
First I want to say I really am loving DC! About half my customers use it instead of paypal now.

Now, on to a little problem I have noticed though-when a customer pays using paypal their shipping address is usually already in the proper format for shipping & has been verified. However, when I ship with DC the addresses I am being provided haven't been verified or anything. I have had to correct or completely change addressess about 1/2 of the time. One customer insisted it was 100% accurate but every time I tried to input the info into paypal to create a label it was flagged, saying there was a problem with it. I had to completely change the address!

It is getting a little frustrating to have to play detective just to figure out what my customer's addresses really are! I shift info around, go to USPS .com to input the address to get a standardized one, etc. My last one today took me 15 minutes of back & forth between USPS & Paypal, erasing this, adding this, looking up that. Is there anyway Etsy shipping addresses can be verified like Paypal does? It would really make it a LOT easier!

Hi everyone!

I wanted to hop back into this thread to let everyone know that the Shipping Improvements Team is temporarily closed. We're so happy that you're excited about integrated shipping tools, and we hope to make these tools widely available soon.

Stay tuned! :)

I had this problem yesterday with printing a paypal label. I put in the address and the zip code was flagged, therefore no label. I informed the customer of the problem and that I would be mailing it to the address provided. Off to the post office I went. Luckily, this rarely happens. I've had to do this one other time that I can remember and it reached it's destination OK.

Hi Shaunna & Sandra,

Thank you both for contributing to this thread! I wanted to let you both know that we're currently working on integrated shipping labels through Etsy. Our labels are printed via USPS, which will verify a buyer's address on a direct checkout order.

While you should always be in touch with your buyer regarding an address, I think this system will really help the trouble that you were experiencing. If you'd like to be a part of the Team that is testing this feature, please feel free to join the "Shipping Improvements" Team!

Hi Evelyn, I use ShipStation to ship my orders. Since I switched to DC, I have had the post office return 3 of my packages because of an insufficient address. I don't contact the buyer each time to verify addresses because the shipping would be delayed and because I don't have time. Is there a plan for DC to verify addresses like PayPal does?

Hi,
You can always just go to the paypal shipnow and put in the address and pretend to do a label ( do not confirm it to purchase it) and see if the address scomes up OK. Having 3 packages come back is pretty bad :-( sorry you had that problem.

I do notice many times the customer puts in the wrong city. Usually, it is a city right near theirs for instance the city of Davie and they live in Fort Lauderdale. I get many like this. My brother lives in shirley, Ny but he calls it east yaphank, NY. That makes a difference.

My flags go up on this information...Never realized so many problems might arise from address errors.
