Chargebacks and Dissatisfied Customers

Hello, just wondering if anyone has yet had any experiences with chargebacks/dissatisfied customers/non-delivery issues. I have DC, and am pleased with it, but I know there are not the same guarantees as Paypal Protection.

Re: Chargebacks and Dissatisfied Customers

This is just my opinion on the subject, but first of all I believe most business people would most likely take a return and keep the customer happy, if there was a problem or issue of dissatisfaction from the buyer, after all it is the right thing to do. I also believe that paypal makes it way too easy for a buyer to initiate a dispute. To my way of thinking, etsy is doing us a favor by not making it easy for us, or anyone else to contact them to dispute an item. The customer would need to call their charge card company and dispute through them, which if memory serves me takes some paperwork. This is all a good thing. Make it hard for customers to file a dispute, and there will be less of them. I know I have a pretty liberal return policy and if you don't like it, simply send back for a full refund. Many times I even return the postage. It is just an old school way of doing business, where the customer is always right, and there is no need to fight them over little things, just take it back and sell it to someone else. Not a big deal, and there are no disputes this way. It's all part of doing business and the costs associated with it. It seems there is maybe 1 in 100 sales that anyone ever wants to return, so I live with it and call it a good day.

Re: Chargebacks and Dissatisfied Customers

I had a customer that wanted to send the item back. I came here on the DC forum to find out just how to do it. They sent it back and it all went smooth.

I couldn't agree more with your post. I have the same policy and views, and it has served me well.
I really do love DC and hope Etsy roles it out a bit faster to all.

Griffincat - I totally agree with you about keeping the customer happy. And I do think that if Etsy is the middleman, and we have all of our correct documentation, in the event of a chargeback for fraudulent credit card charges or non-delivery claims Etsy would go to bat for us. Just like any other merchant chargebacks. But I'm not sure if that has been spelled out in the rules for us anywhere, and just curious if anyone has had those kind of issues. Good selling to everyone!

Re: Chargebacks and Dissatisfied Customers

I had posted before in another thread but no one addressed it.....I have DC and for some reason I can't get or I'm just to stupid to understand how I can ship via paypal....and my question was what .happens if you ship to someone and they come back an say they didnt' get there item....well it happened, is was a small package first class and the post office wouldn't do delivery confirmation on it....I get it via paypal, but couldn't ship the packaged via paypal.

Well now I know....I do have the receipt from the shipping and will go to the post office tomorrow, but I'm a retired postal worker and I know what the answer will be.....so I'm going to have to refund the young lady the money for her purchase, and I'm pretty sure she has the package (it doesn't take two weeks for a package to go from NJ to PA and not be returned to me if there was a problem delivering it.) And I have no recourse.

DC is fine, it takes very long for me to get the money in my account (I have accounts in a saving and loan, not a commercial bank, so it takes a bit longer for the electronic thing, about two days longer than most)...But until I can figure out how to ship via paypal so I have delivery confirmation I'm going to have to pay the extra higher price at the post office for delivery confirmation and signature required because of the potential problem
