Cancelling a transaction - a different angle

I have a regular customer who bought a dress and returned it. She knows she'll be buying something else so she just wants store credit and not a refund. I wanted to cancel the transaction and relist it but since she paid with DC I can't cancel the transaction without fully refunding her money first.

So I had to relist the item and I've lost the transaction fee for a ~ $200 item.

Please add this to the list of reasons why we need to be able to cancel without a refund sometimes. This is a legitimate reason to cancel, right? I could have done this if she had paid with Paypal.

Re: Cancelling a transaction - a different angle

Interesting.. thanks for the feedback. "Seller and buyer agreed to cancel the transaction" is a legitimate use case for canceling, but since we don't explicitly support a "cancel for store credit" functionality through DC or Paypal, this hasn't been something on our radar. Thanks for surfacing it.

Re: Cancelling a transaction - a different angle

another twist--

if a customer RETURNS an item for refund.. most shops have the policy of refunding "item price" but not shipping.... but we can't cancel the transaction without a FULL refund!! not good!!

and what if you charge restocking fees?? same dilemma..

hopefully this is already on The List. ???

Re: Cancelling a transaction - a different angle

I have the same issue as Helen above.
Will this feature be added...notice it's been months since the OP?

And as Just Kim said, this could be an issue as well.

I realized Etsy doesn't allow store credit, but I'm sure many shop owners keep track on their own. I know I do.

Yes waiting for updates. Especially if you refund money for item and you can't get away with losing the shipping fees that were already used, so you are out the shipping fees.

Re: Cancelling a transaction - a different angle

I have run into this exact same issue. It becomes a problem especially on multi-item orders when the buyer wants to return only one or two pieces. Etsy gets to hold onto quite a nice bit of money since I can't cancel just that item.

It's now 2015 and I'm still waiting for this to be adjusted.
