Can I add a charge to a customer's CC if they ask me to?

A customer has already paid for their order but needs to add more funds to ship their items to two different addresses, and she gave me her CC # . I was going to tell her that I can't process her credit card # myself and she needs to go through Direct Checkout, but I wanted to make sure there was nothing I could do on my end. Do I have to make up a separate listing for her to send extra shipping funds? Thanks in advance. :)

Making a separate listing for shipping only is not Etsy legal since every listing must be for a tangible item. And since there is no way to invoice through DC your only option is to invoice your customer through Paypal.

This is a very poor system, that really needs to be fixed asap. There are a few or maybe even many, that do not accept paypal and have gone exclusively with DC, and this is not a viable option for them. The customer also quite possibly does not have a paypal account, so for Etsy to use paypal as their band-aid on this is not very realistic.

If you take PayPal, you can invoice her directly for the amount. She doesn't have to have a PayPal account. Google Wallet and Squareup also have ways to invoice or accept credit cards, respectively. It may or may not be worth the time for you set them up for this one transaction, however.

I think you are right, and I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and eat the money she needs to pay extra. But this is an issue that needs attention for Direct Checkout sellers- I do accept Paypal as well, but some people may not want to use Paypal, know how to do it or just not be able to for whatever reason.

I am having the same issue, now that postage rates for international have doubled. I sold a heavy book to Canada, and she needs to pay more shipping. She is not sure of her paypal address, so I hope this works. Some people may hardly ever use Paypal.
