printing 8 by 10

here is the thing-I need to print 8 by 10 because this is the size right. I have standard 8.5 by 11 paper and my images are creating on an 8 by 10 artboard. I then printed them and they were all centered t the left instead of centered. To correct this I am thinking to make the artboard standard size and paste a 8 by 10 border around my image. This way I can cut the 8 by 10 size when I printed it.
thanks for your help

Re: printing 8 by 10

I may have figured this out. I did make my 8 by 10 art board 8.5 by 11 and then added an 8 by 10 border around my image so I can refer to this border when I cut the printed art print to 8 by 10 size.

Re: printing 8 by 10

Sounds like you got it. One thing to watch out for when printing items that are designed at a specific size is that when you print, make sure any scaling or positioning options are disabled.

Re: printing 8 by 10

what does scaling mean and what does positioning mean. I checked and scaling is set to 150%

Re: printing 8 by 10

For and 8x10 design that is laid out at exactly 8x10 the scaling should be 100% vs. the 150%.

Think of scaling like zooming in or out. For instance if I am creating an 8x10 I create it on an 8.5x11 sheet and I layout the design in an 8x10 box centered in the middle. I also design away from the edges of that 8x10 to allow for matting. If I did my job right everything is exactly where it is supposed to be. Now if I go and print a PDF for example there are several scaling options in the page scaling box. I would suggest using none. The others may or may not shrink/expand your design when printed based on what math the PDF maker does to "correct the layout" or zoom in or out if you will.

Now positioning is a bit simpler. Depending on your program and printer you sometimes have options for moving the printed image around on the page (tiling, centered, fit) so be wary of those options as well.

It really boils down to three things, how you laid out your design, the programs you use, and any printer settings that your printer may throw into the mix.

Hope this makes sense.

Re: printing 8 by 10

yes Richard it does. I did originally design on an 8 by 10 art board to ensure that my word art is this size and printed it only to discover that it was printing on the left side and crooked at that. I just thought with I do know and changed my art board to standard letter size and then created an b by 10 rectangle and placed in the center of the standard art board and then pasted my image. My border is a black .25 I printed one right now and it looks great. I just have to make sure colors are bright as they should be and get cutting. Thank s so much for the help.

thanks for your help.
