How do you get traffic to your shop??

Hi everyone!

I'm rather new to the whole Etsy shop thing and just opened up at the beginning of March. A girl I know who does the same kind of thing as me (invitations, wall art, etc) has been open since the beginning of February and has had almost 200 sales where as I've had less than 10. I have a FB page open with almost 90 fans and do the occasional promotion and always get great reviews on my stuff. I'm running Etsy search ads too and using what I think are good keywords in my listings. Am I missing a key part to this or am I just being impatient? Thanks for any words of wisdom!

I think you're off to a great start, Jenn! My approach was very similar to yours when I started last fall. I knew a couple of other sellers who were killing it within a few months, and my first couple were more of a slow incline. That said, traffic suddenly picked up once I had about 75 listings in my shop. Sales & favorites on your listings are a huge boost to being found in search, so by my 3rd month, things really took off. Hang in there! List new items, promote your tail off (your Facebook page is already proof of that) and sales will come!

Okay, so I posted this discussion about two months ago. My shop was only a little over a month old. Here I am 3 months into it and I'm still not seeing the business that I'd like to. Am I expecting too much too soon? I've got 32 sales under my belt, but at least half of those are custom orders from women in my mommy group. I've increased my inventory to over 85 items, am regularly active on my company FB page, I'm paying for Etsy search ads, and I'm just not reaching the level of success I'd hoped to have by now. The women in my mommy group say that they really love my stuff, so I have to think I'm not putting out crap, but I'd sure love the opinions of people in this group (if you don't mind)...give it to me straight...I can take it :) Thanks in advance!!

Jennifer, I think your products are really beautiful, and I just can't understand it! Your style of design and choice of colours really appeals to me! Its really disheartening...

I wish I knew the answers also. I joined in 2011, but have only been pushing my products for the last year. Maybe it will make you feel better that I've only had 12 sales :( Admittedly I'm New Zealand based, so that can be really off putting for potential customers, but I know others in New Zealand that are selling abroad frequently. But I'm not feeling the love :( Maybe my style is just not popular, maybe its my prices...I'm determined to keep trying for now.

Have you tried networking? It's on facebook, just google it and you'll find info about it. It's a way to boost your likes on facebook and bring traffic to your page.

I have re-opened my shop on may 1st, and have sold 17 items since. I think it's a good start... Your shop is really beautiful, I like your style!!

Don't give up, I think success is on its way!

Oh and Pinterest is a good tool too.

Are you on the SEO team? It's a lot of help :) You could join the treasury game, it's still open. :)

You have a well organized and appealing shop for sure! I would participate in as many teams as possible and partake in "favor the shops above and post yours to be favored). Following and favoring is key most people will reciprocate and you will show up in others activity feeds. I've favored your shop and am now following you. ; )

Melanie is right! Plays like "favor the shop above" "post 2 favor 10" and such, plus treasury lists, plus activity in teams that gathering mums (there are few), pinterest - it's really important and helpfull.
