Welcome to the new Hillary or Bernie or Trump thread

Because the Hillary thread had surpassed 10,000 posts and it felt like maybe we should move this thread to a team mode so that we can guarantee that we wont wake up one morning and find it has been removed, you are all invited to join this team. Were the thread in the general forum to be removed we would not have any idea who the hundreds of posters or lurkers were in the thread because once removed there may not be a record of our friends ( which many of us are ) So here we are . For as long as the thread lasts in the forums you can post on both but be careful because the rules that can result in muting are not always clear and teams do not have the same restrictions as general forum posts. I hope to see you all here and at the very least make a note on your PC for the address as to where to find your old friends,, It is the "Differing Political Opinions "team established in 2011.

Hopefully people will remember the link it was at the top of page 130 in the general forum but fortunately all of our screen names are there if anyone wants to contact us and ask where to go . I have a feeling this team will be having some growing pains soon... like today.

I believe the post about Germany wanting to control the EU was the offending post that ended it all. I thought it was a bit over the top, but so were many comments so I don't know what was particularly offensive about that one. Shutting down that thread reminds me that Democracy isn't present within corporations.

Yes, it may split the party. I think it's possible that the dem party will split too over the use of the superdelegates. To know that your vote means nothing would be very frustrating. I didn't vote for Trump but at least I had the option of picking someone without a pre-determined winner being in place.

Politics will never be the same in the US.

Mary, this election cycle has changed the way americans vote, I remember some years ago, you couldn't get people out to vote if your life depended on it. Not this year.

Chats, the GOP as we know it is done. I am one of those who was never loyal to the Republican party - and in fact, as I may have mentioned, I was registered as in Independent up to this primary because I knew it was going to be very, very important for conservatives to have a voice in the Republican primaries.

That being said, a lot of conservatives don't much like Paul Ryan either, due to his budget deal. I don't really have an opinion either way because I haven't dug that far into it.

I agree Leslie----Trump increased voter turn out for the rep primaries by about 60%, and I would think Bernie did the same for the dems.

If it wasn't for teams, I would no interaction here at all. I guess it's been 2 years since muted. Once for telling someone they had IP items, once for calling a guy an idiot--he was, and the last for telling people to quit ganging up on certain members. I'm so evil.

Katie, same here: I was a Democrat way back in the 1960s during the Kennedy era, but changed to unaffiliated/Independent and stayed that way until this election cycle. However, the reason I changed my reg back to Democrat was actually because it looked like Biden might run, and I wanted to be able to vote for him in the primary if that happened. We have closed primaries AND if someone wants to change parties the deadline is 6 MONTHS before primary day! At that time Biden hadn't yet decided yes or no, so I did the reg switch just to be safe. But after seeing the circus that has come to town, lol, I think I may leave it this way instead of switching back to unaffiliated.

The reason Trump's kids couldn't vote for him here is because they didn't change from unaffiliated to Republican before the cutoff date last year.

Dee, so basically the two functional differences between a team thread and a forum thread are (a) there's no nested comments (which means no character limit, yay!) and (b) only the team captain(s) can remove posts?

Well, other than only team members can post. That too. :-)

Do you think the mods would let you start a "If you're looking for the Trump/Hillary thread, it now lives here" new thread in Chitchat, as a signpost?

Captains and team leaders can remove posts. Also, any post removed from the threads can still be read by the leaders.

Thanks, Mary. :-) I was on a team when I had a shop here, but most of my interaction with them was in their Yahoo Groups rather than on the Etsy Team forum. So I never got much into the ins and outs of team forums really.

I just sent a convo shout-out to Mollie Burd and A Vintage Vagrant, who both got permamuted over the past week or so, to let them know the thread is going on here.
