Welcome to the new Hillary or Bernie or Trump thread

Because the Hillary thread had surpassed 10,000 posts and it felt like maybe we should move this thread to a team mode so that we can guarantee that we wont wake up one morning and find it has been removed, you are all invited to join this team. Were the thread in the general forum to be removed we would not have any idea who the hundreds of posters or lurkers were in the thread because once removed there may not be a record of our friends ( which many of us are ) So here we are . For as long as the thread lasts in the forums you can post on both but be careful because the rules that can result in muting are not always clear and teams do not have the same restrictions as general forum posts. I hope to see you all here and at the very least make a note on your PC for the address as to where to find your old friends,, It is the "Differing Political Opinions "team established in 2011.

In teams it helps to keep responses straight if you put an ""@ ( fill in the name) ""and then any particular quote you were addressing. This kinda keeps someone who posted while you were typing from thinking it was directed at them. Just a little suggestion since we don't have nested posts.

This thread is marked public kind of a bread trail to posters from the general forums to see and find us . So keep it civil, really civil... but if you scroll down the main page on the front page of the team you will find discussions marked "private" that is where most of the posting will be once we get everyone nice and comfy. Feel free to go through older private threads and revitalize them. You may be embarrassed at how frank we are sometimes....;)

HI everyone. Ive been a member before we had this team. Back in the day when we fought in the regular forums. We would go at it for a week and then our thread would get shut down. There are a bunch of threads in there called Political thread #5, #6 on and on. Until the etc forum got shut down and we were divided into teams.

It will be a very interesting election cycle, that's for sure. I have no idea who I will be voting for, but am looking libertarian right now.

Hi everyone. Good to see so many of you from the other thread. I also look forward to meeting the rest of you. I was a registered Republican from the age of 18 until just 5 years ago when we moved from PA to DE. I have always been more in the middle. I would be independent if I lived in an open primary state. I find that I have moved away from the Republican party more as they have become too far right for me; or I have grown too left for them.
ETA: I and my husband are retired. De is a great state for seniors.

If I had to slap a party label on myself, it would be "centrist-right/moderate Democrat" because there are a few GOP positions that I do agree with, such as the need for a balanced-budget amendment, and term limits. But I'm completely anti-GOP culturally. Essentially I'm a fiscal consevative but at the same time, I'm not as far left as Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

I will probably leave my registration as Democrat because I'm in a closed-primary state, albeit a conveniently blue one. :-) I'm a baby boomer also.

Common sense is such a rare commodity these days, even in Texas! LOL. Lately, the company I've worked for, for over a couple of decades, has been hit with some really crazy unemployment claims. And, even though these jerks refuse work, or completely ignore many offers of work, (one even has a full time job elsewhere) the Texas Workforce grants them benefits! You have to appeal and appeal until you finally get someone interested in enforcing employment law! ie One must be available to work in order to be eligible for unemployment benefits!

And, just FYI, I'd wager all the money in my purse that they are die hard democrats!

Chats--We don't have to register in Alabama, just declare a party in primaries. I would not want to permanently pick a party, I like to choose the person, not the party.

Common sense is indeed rare!! I have worked for Walmart twice---yep stupid enough to repeat the mistake. Too many never showed up for their shifts or hid in the back doing nothing. I won't even go into management problems.

I'm a bit younger than you other constitutionally minded people; I'll be 37 later this month. Nearly all my friends from high school and college are liberal. I was more in the middle when I was younger, but I get farther and farther right (with a healthy dash of Libertarianism for good measure) as I age.

@Katie, there are a few Libertarian positions that I can agree with but most are too extreme for me, such as the repeal of all drug laws.

Within my thankfully-now-ex-inlaws family there's a fellow who started off as a Libertarian (even tried unsuccessfully to run for Congress as one) but whose views evolved/devolved within a very few years to mainly that of an anarchist. He moved to one of the "hotbed" NH towns but ended up being kicked out of the local Libertarian Party because of his extreme views, and now apparantly makes a living (of sorts) promoting anarchist views online and local media. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him as a national news headline someday and not in a good way; he was never what I'd call a "stable" personality. But what surprised me was the ease and speed with which he transitioned from Libertarian views into Anarchist ones.

I really don't like the extremes of any party. You either have Communism or Marxism, which seems too similar to me.
I also don't care for religion being in the mix. You believe how you wish, don't hurt anyone and don't make me believe as you do.
