Photo Editing software....

I am having a really hard time brighting my photos... I try natural light and my pictures seem dull and dark....I try sunlight and get endless shadow...I try flash, these actually are the best and brightest.

So I am wondering if there is a FREE - easy to use photo editing software out there, and is there a way to edit the photos I have? To brighten them?

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Thanks
Rebecca

Re: Photo Editing software....

i think with the sunlit pictures, you might want to utilize a white bounce card (large white cardstock piece of craftboard) and have it and the sunlight sandwich the item being photographed - have it reflecting the light from the side the sun is casting a shadow. it will fill the shadow in.

picasa by google is a great program to use to brighten and add contrast to your pictures: http://picasa.google.com/

It has a bit of a learning curve but GIMP is a good free source photoshop type program. Very powerful when you figure it out.

Hi there,

I'm not sure what camera you have, but if it has some control over the exposure, then try over exposing a little for your indoor shots. Try increasing in small increments until you get the effect you want. Don't overdo it though as your whites will get blown out (no detail).
