PC Stitch

Have any of the members used PC Stitch to make cross stitch patterns. How did you find it? Is it worth the money? =)

Re: PC Stitch

I know this is super delayed! But I just bought MacStitch (the Mac version of PC Stitch) and I. LOVE. IT.

Seriously, I've only had it for about a week now but I love it so much more than the program I was previously using. I bought the most expensive version (I don't remember if it's called Deluxe, or Premium, or what) but it's crazy, it has half and quarter stitches, back stitching, you can add beads, sequins, and knots to your patterns, there's a digital mockup of what the pattern will look like when it's stitched....it's fantastic, and I've barely used like 1% of its capabilities lol. Personally, I think it is worth the money. There's a demo version you can download to get a feel for it, but I'm not sure how extensive it is (I just went ahead and made the investment).

If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to do my best to answer them :)

Re: PC Stitch

I was curious because I downloaded PC Stitch (and really liked it) but received a message in the program that said something along the lines of "premade fonts. borders, or images you use in patterns cannot be use for commercial use". I ended up returning it because I wanted to use the fonts when making some patterns and it seems like that is against the softwares use. At least for the $50 version I bought. Does anyone else have this issue?

Hmm...I haven't seen that message, although I haven't played around with fonts yet. I'll see if I can look into that some more...if I find anything I'll share it with you!

Re: PC Stitch

I just downloaded the demo of PC Stitch to test against the Pattern Maker I've been using (which I bought years ago to make a couple of personal patterns as gifts). One of the nice features PM has that I can't find on PC Stitch is the ability to create layouts and export them to Rich Text Files (which I can easily create PDFs out of). I like the number of library samples in PC Stitch, but they have copyright restrictions and I can't use them in my patterns for sale. It has lots of fonts...but they almost all look the same.
I realize that PM is no longer in development, but I'm wondering what I'm not seeing for PCStitch?

Re: PC Stitch

I'm by no means an expert, but I'll add in my two cents!

And just a quick note, I am using Mac Stitch, so there may be minor differences, but overall I think they're the same.

In PC/Mac Stitch, you can export as a PDF automatically. Go to the Import/Export menu > Export > Export as PDF. There, a window will pop up that gives you a whole bunch of options, like what way you want the pattern (symbols, color blocks, etc) and whether or not you'd like a preview photo. Lots of customization that will give you exactly what you want, and it's all done for you (my old pattern program required me to export a pattern, export a photo, export a color list, and I had to put them all together...this is so much easier!)

The files in the demo mode are just there so you can see what a pattern will look like in the program, how it will be when it's printed, etc. In the demo mode there's not much you can do with them, it's truly meant as an example. The full version has all sorts of motifs, and you can create your own as well.

As for the fonts, the full version I have has a LOT of fonts, all very different. I'm not sure if that's a demo vs full version thing, or something else. Have you increased the font size? I know sometimes the default is a small size and that can make it difficult to read them clearly.

I am VERY happy with the investment I've made in Mac Stitch. I can't speak for everyone, of course, but I haven't been disappointed in anything that it can or cannot do. I would recommend checking the version list to see which version would be best for you, if any, keeping in mind the restrictions that are placed on the demo version.

Best of luck!

Re: PC Stitch

Ok. I've poked into the export feature. All I'm seeing (Windows demo) is Export to graphics file, and Export to PCStitch 7.
I can see features that I LOVE. The Borders feature that allows you to insert and size an entire border in one step. The Blend floss feature is very easy to use. And I see the Stitched Text button and the number of samples they have.
So I'm seeing great features, but no export to PDF.

Re: PC Stitch

You may need a full version for exporting. If you go to http://www.ursasoftware.com/macstitch/page36/page36.html (the Mac/PC Stitch Versions page) and scroll down to "Export Options" you can see what capabilities each version has. It looks like the PDF options are only in the Standard/Premium versions.

Maybe someone else with Standard can speak to their capabilities, since I have Premium?

I'm not sure how to do it on a Windows machine, but I know on my computer I can open the print window and from there, save the page as a PDF. Maybe that is a suitable workaround?
