Please add another field for "Weight with another item"

CS overall is working pretty well, but still having problems with multiple items, especially when they are lightweight.

Example: One set of vintage Christmas ornaments, packaged to ship, weighs 15 ounces. Adding a second set only changes the weight by 3-4 ounces, but there is no way to reflect this, so the buyer is charged for almost another full pound. By the time they purchase 3 or more sets, the shipping cost has gotten quite high, due to the weight being calculated. It is not possible to list a lower weight, because a single set of ornaments can be shipped First Class and every ounce matters. Most of the 15 oz weight is packaging and doesn't really change much when ornaments are added, but it can't be lowered or customers will be undercharged if they only purchase one set of ornaments. CS is putting multiple items into one box, so that is not the problem, it is simply that the weight doesn't increase by 15 oz for every set. This is also a problem with paper items. Another field to add the weight for an item that doesn't require additional packaging would be very helpful!

Carol, that is a problem. I would suggest that you write directly to Etsy Support and put something about Calculated Shipping Problem in your subject line.

No one from Etsy reads this team anymore. But if you write directly to Etsy they should forward this to the shipping team. They have been very good at getting back to me when I've written.

It doesn't hurt to pass along your findings about CS and what works and doesn't work to them for when they adjust certain things in the future.

Carol, did you here anything back yet? I'm new to using CS and I'm finding it a bit cumbersome with the packing and measuring, and then putting my own item in the cart to make sure it's being calculated correctly. It just takes up too much valuable time. And now the added worry of is it going to calculate a multi-item order correctly. Post here if you hear anything about this from Etsy. Thanks!

You must test your items, it is the only way to be sure you are getting the right measurements and weights into your listings.

Carol's problem is specific to her very light items, it is not the general rule.

I ship multiples all the time and have found CS to be very accurate. But some of my items I have to fudge the weight for one a bit in order for two or more to give me the correct shipping. But in my case, it does not alter the price for shipping one because it is over 1 pound so whether I put 1.1 or 2 pounds, the shipping is the same. With first class a few ounces can make a big difference.

But testing is the only way you can be sure. I find the best method is to open to my shop in a different browser. I test my items there while I still have my shop open in my regular browser so I can make adjustments.

There is no getting around the work it takes to set this up correctly. But once you get the hang of it and once it is set up, the time it saves in the long run is enormous.

Keep in mind that come January there will be changes again to postage for USPS. When these changes happen they will automatically be updated for our postage with CS. You never have to worry about it again.
