New and new help!

Hi there, I'm not new to Etsy, been opened since 2009 (other shop) but for the life of me, I cannot figure out the shipping profiles or calculated shipping. Everything just sort of spins in my head when I start reading all this stuff. I really want to be able to ship internationally. I see in other stores how the buyer just clicks on the country, or a zip code and gets a shipping cost. Is that SP or CS? It's just all super confusing. i hope this team can straighten out my head on all this. Thanks!

Jeannine........

Calculated shipping is pretty easy to set up. Have you read any of the wonderful "Help" articles that Etsy has written?

This article explains in detail how to set up calculated shipping. First you need to set up a calculated shipping profile, and this article explains how to do that:

https://www.etsy.com/help/article/6131?ref=help_search_result

As for your question: "I see in other stores how the buyer just clicks on the country, or a zip code and gets a shipping cost. Is that SP or CS?" That would be CS.

I know CS can be a bit confusing, but if you follow the above help article that I have posted, you should be able to set up a calculated shipping profile within minutes.

Best of luck to you! Ginger

Re: New and new help!

Jeannine, good morning and hi to Ginger.

I looked at your shop. You sell jewelry and you don't have a lot of listings right now so we should be able to talk you through this.

Like Ginger said, step one is to set up a shipping profile. You will only need one to start. Just click to make a new profile and fill in the blanks. Name it whatever you want. Add your zip code. Select your processing time.

Then choose calculate for me. Setting up this profile does not change anything with your listings so go ahead and try it.

Next you select what mail classes you want to offer. I would assume you would be using First Class and Priority and if you want, add International First Class and Priority.

Then select what countries you want to ship to. If only the US you cross out all countries. Or you can select just some countries, it's up to you.

Then choose if you want to use Retail prices or Etsy shipping label prices.

You can add a shipping and handling fee to the profile as well, but be aware that a fee added there will go on each item purchased.

Once you have a calculated shipping profile to work with you can work on your listings. For each listing you need to put in the item dimensions and the weight of the package. And you select the calculated shipping profile to attach to it.

Do you put your jewelry in gift boxes? Do you put packing material around the jewelry or the box, like bubble wrap? You want to measure your item like you would have it ready for shipping - you do not measure the shipping box or mailer - just the item with packing material around.

For the weight you want to weigh it ready to ship in the box or mailer. For the weight you need the whole package weight for shipping just one item because this is what the shipping price is based on.

The last step is setting up package preferences and we can get to that when you are ready. That is where you enter the sizes of the boxes or mailers you use - or you select from a drop down menu for flat rate or regional rate boxes.
