Insurance?

Can I add insurance to an item when I'm processing my calculated shipping label?

Re: Insurance?

You can use the handling fee (it's added per item) or the packaging fee (added per order) to add insurance. There isn't a separate/specific field for insurance.

Re: Insurance?

Sydney if you ship with Priority and use Etsy to print the label it comes with $100 worth of insurance.
If you use Paypal Priority comes with $50 worth of insurance.

If you want to insured with Etsy's 3rd party insurance you just add in the amount you want to insure (you can add the total, item and shipping).
It's 80 cents up to $100.
This is on your print shipping label page right under where you add the weight.

Re: Insurance?

Thanks Pat. We interpreted her question differently. I think your answer might have been when the OP was looking for.

As an aside, if I really want something insured I don't count on the included insurance through USPS priority. They don't cover items marked delivered if the customer says they didn't get it, but the 3rd party insurance does.

Re: Insurance?

Is there any sender protection that comes with the Calculated Shipping? I thought that when I clicked the buy agreement it came with $100 worth of protection.

Re: Insurance?

Sender protection (insurance) isn't a function of calculated shipping, it's a function of purchasing an online label. I think if you buy priority shipping at the USPS counter, it's $50. Through online labels it's $100. Neither are valid if the item is marked delivered, though, If you truly want sender protection (insurance) I would purchase 3rd party insurance when buying a label through Etsy. It's very reasonably priced and covers more than USPS insurance covers.

Re: Insurance?

BYGOneYears, how do you know USPS does not cover if marked delivered? Is this from personal experience. I will be sure to ask the next time I am at the PO. That doesn't seem right, but I suppose the US doesn't cover theft, only if they loose it.

Re: Insurance?

Kathleen, If USPS marks an item delivered that has insurance but the buyer claims it's not USPS will not accept a claim for a lost item because it shows delivered. To USPS that package is not lost, it's been delivered.

I supposed now since most carriers have GSP that shows were a mail carrier left a package you might be able to get them to see if they left the package at the wrong house and either retrieve it or let you file a claim but I don't know if even then they would.

USPS doesn't cover theft, it's up to a buyer to have a secure place for their mail/packages.

If you want insurance to cover items that show delivered but the buyer claims they aren't you have to insure the package like Bygone mentioned above.
