Colors...thoughts?

I keep looking at my yarn stash and I have some beautiful colors in there and a desire to make beautiful bootcuffs out of them. However, I wonder if there is really a market for bootcuffs in bright colors. Thus far my most popular items have been neutrals, so I'm stocking up on those, but I still wonder.

What do you think? To color or to neutral?

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I don't see women wearing bright colors. IMHO the best colors for boot cuffs are subtle colors, e.g., dark cerulean blue, wine red, slate gray, mushroom taupe, heather etc. The picture in upper left of your screen under "Boot Cuffs" shows barley brown and pumpkin orange boot cuffs from KMHutton: https://www.etsy.com/listing/113622389/reversible-boot-cuffs-cabled-and-ribbed

Another good choice is oatmeal colors, these are easy to match to sweaters.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

The only "bright" colors I've sold have been jewel tones. I'd be hesitant to break out the super brights, they may be sitting for a while.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

Yeah. I'm pretty convinced to stay in neutral/autumn or jewel darks, but there's a part of me that just wants to see someone rock an aqua cuff. ;) Though my nieces did love the pale pink ones I did for them. So there might be a market for much younger girls in brighter colors.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

The only bright color I have sold have been custom requests for "hot pink", one pair to an adult who wears black and pink all the time, and the other two pairs to adolescent girls. Otherwise, neutrals, browns, grays, dark blues, etc.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

The brightest colors I've sold are red, purple, and green in boot cuffs. I don't see people wearing brights in boot cuffs. Perhaps white or cream too.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

Our best selling colors are Heather Grey & Black, then Black Fleck, Darker Grays, Dark Purple. Burgundy. The lighter color that sold well this year was Cream Fleck.
For the most part, it doesn't really seem worth it to stock the lighter or brighter colors. If you would like to offer them, I would do it on a "Made To Order" basis, then you're not stuck with the yarn or finished items, after the season.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

Very helpful discussion . I agree that earth tones are more popular for adults but I think younger girls would love the bright colors with tights, maybe hello kitty buttons on the side if you want to appeal to that age group. Thanks for the invite I am excited to be on this team !

Re: Colors...thoughts?

So happy to be part of this team.

I would guess that 98% of my boot cuffs have been grey. It would be fun if the trend changed because I'd love to do lots of different colors.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I am the opposite, I love fun colors. I sell a lot of coral, mint, jewel tone green, pinks, reds. My most popular colors are still brown and white.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I have had a few sales in brighter colors, but not many. Mostly just the darker and more neutral colors. Perhaps marketing the more colorful ones to younger girls could work for the brighter colors.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I've sold mostly darker ones, too. Black, dark blue, dark green, burgundy. But I did sell one recently in a cream, and finally sold a pair of medium teal ones I had for a long time. :-)

Re: Colors...thoughts?

Brown have been pretty popular for me but I have sold a few Aqua ones which is my favorite. During the football season I made some Seahawk ones and those were pretty popular.
Any advice on how to boost sales on Etsy? I sell most of my stuff via FB and word of mouth. It's been kind of slow for me on Etsy. Thanks for any tips!

Re: Colors...thoughts?

All the ones I gave sold are white, grays, heathers, purple.

Nancy,
Etsy takes time to get things rolling. Stay active on teams, promote your shop on FB & twitter. One suggestion I have is your backgrounds are very busy, kind of distracts from your pieces. Most recommend grey or white backgrounds. Good luck.

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I just went back and looked at my sales and my best selling was gray.

I did sell some pink, but didn't sell very quick.

I might do a few in a dark orange.

Seriously thinking about some team colors.

Thanks for all you input, helps when trying to stock up for Fall. It's so inexpensive to list on Etsy and I am still getting views and marked as favorite so I am going to keep a few listed through the year. Might help out in the fall.

Best of luck to everyone

So, here's a question what is your favorite yarn to use (fiber/brand)?

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I recently made a pair like the ones pictured in for my profile but they had a different color on each rib. The gal I made them for LOVED them and I have another order for a similar pair. Fun for sure!

Re: Colors...thoughts?

I am going to try colors this year. Not too many but just to test the waters with color options. Already made some in army green and blue. Lots to make before fall.
