editing tags

Is there a way to edit the tags in all my listings at once instead of editing them each individually?

No. Unfortunately you do have to go into each listing to edit.
That would be a great suggestion for the idea forum:)

I am still not understanding about tags. what do they do? have read on the Etsy site about them.

I am so sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
Tags are used to sell your items in your shop.
The tags are very important because, it's how shoppers will find your shop, and your items. The title you use should match the tags you use.
The search engines use key words such as Vintage, Handmade, Genuine, Hand Crocheted, what ever pertains to the item you are selling.
