This morning I did a quick draw exercise. Gave myself 1 hour or less. I used acrylic and painted a portrait of a pig......I'm working on loosening up. I tend to get tight quickly.
Well this pig is loose and a bit interesting.
Have a painting floating around in my head that I hope to work on later. Will be gone for a while today. I'll use oil for the new one. I mostly paint alla prima.
So what are you working on????????

Re: What are you working on??????????

Today a friend came over and wanted some help using watercolors. She recently wrote a book about her Doberman....she is a big animal lover and rescues dogs.
Her next book is about her chickens and wanted to get some ideas how to paint them. So we started at 11 this morning and she left a 6......so that is what I was doing today.
This is her book in case you want to take a peek.

Re: What are you working on??????????

i just finished a knife painting!. It didn't start out that way though. i had painted a landscape of the blueberry barrens after harvest when they turn brilliant flaming orange... (love seeing that!)
anyway the painting , a large size for me at 10x10 in, was merely ok at best. i decided to go for broke and to try something new. I used a butter knife and began applying my stokes and layers.... and i LOVE the way it turned out and the technique!
- don't know if that's how a real professional does a knife painting, but i do want to do more with the technique...plus get a few real palette knives!! :)

Re: What are you working on??????????

This is my new piece called serenity. I have been kinda stressed lately hoping for a sale that never seems to come. Oh well life moves on. What I am working on is another acrylic/watercolor mix media painting, or just another style of landscape. Who knows. Any suggestions?

It's cold in California too Donnarose. Rained most of the day today and all night last night. Though not cold like snow!

Re: What are you working on??????????

My advice on watercolor is to spring for the block (as stretching the paper is a pain in the ass), and don't use WC paper that's less than 140 lbs. in weight.

Also, pan watercolor is just as good as the tube type, and is less messy.

Just my two cents :)

Re: What are you working on??????????

We had snow in our mountains but just rain here in Northern California. It's in the 50's and I just can't seem to get warm. I thought I'd post my painting that I was talking about the other day.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Yes, congratulations, Rachel! That's really cool!

I'm working on a new commissioned cityscape 36 x 48... It's too large for Canada Post so I'm going to have to ship it another way.

I checked a Fed-Ex quote... 6 day shipping = $151. 3 day shipping = $905... wow... what?

So I'm using Purolator! It's way more reasonable.

I'm working on some more little sunset paintings. They're really popular on print sites so far so I figured I'd keep producing them.

Something like these only better.

Also, I've started working on a commission from my dad for a painting of his friends fishing boat. He's going to give it to his friend for a Christmas gift. So thoughtful!

Re: What are you working on??????????

Sold a painting today. Not on here though. It was local sale. It was my bobbing for apples piece. So woooohoooo I sold something. I am working today on a water color painting of a fish jumping out of the lake water in the air. There will be a mountain range in the background as well as a style of evergreen trees into the distance at the base of the mountain range.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Good morning
I'm at my brothers and have access to the internet
No art supplies with me
Seeing all your beautiful paintings makes me wish I was home in my dungeon art studio
Probably go to my mama's tomorrow and no internet there
Have a nice day everyone

Re: What are you working on??????????

Congratulations on selling your Bobbing for Apples piece, Charles. That's Fabulous!!!!!! So happy for you. And it really was a very nice piece.

Donnarose, thanks for checking in, great to hear from you.

For everyone else, just to clarify, it wasn't **my** painting that sold, it was just someone else's painting that I featured in one of my kooky treasuries. The artist wrote that my treasury was the reason for her sale, so it made me feel good, but not as exciting as it would have been if one of **my** paintings had sold. But thanks for being so excited for me anyways!

Donnarose, are you enjoying the miserable gray cold rainy weather in Northern Cal? I've got wool socks, my Uggs on and two sweaters. We Californians don't like cold weather! Also, I'm worried about my pomegranates. It doesn't usually rain here this early and this is right about the time they get truly ripe. Now I'm worried they won't like all the rain and not get ripe.

Re: What are you working on??????????

In fact another seller just sold a 1940s hat that I had featured in my Whatever Happened to Baby Jane treasury--she tweeted it and someone bought it!

Maybe I should charge small commissions--my treasuries seem to be more popular than my paintings!

Re: What are you working on??????????

Sounds like you are all gloriously busy. My plein air group has started going out painting once a week and yesterday we went to Los Luceros. That's where Robert Redford had his offices for the Melogro Bean Field movie. The cottonwood trees were gorgeous, very old and huge. I am also working on a poppy series as red is my all time favorite color.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Judi, red is my fav color, too! Love it! Looking forward to seeing your poppies series :)

SK Cole, you should get a commission! Your treasuries are all so beautifully curated :)

Charles, love the new piece! What a nicely detailed painting!

I have a few new listings I'll put up next week, but right now I'm packing a couple sold pieces to ship. One of which is going to Sony Pictures in Hollywood to be used on the set of a new NBC tv series "Save Me." WAHOO!!! National tv for my little Lightning Storm piece! (These new browse pages are working out for me, I'd say).

Re: What are you working on??????????

Oh dear, preparing for Hurricane Sandy now! We live right on the Chesapeake Bay in MD. I don't want to put my shop on vacation so I put an announcement on my page. Now, I used to live on an island so I've weathered my fair share of hurricanes, but the Mid-Atlantic region has a harder time handling these freak storms because they aren't prepared for them here.

Off to pull the pumpkins inside and gather what I can of the tomatoes that are left before Frankenstorm hits.

Re: What are you working on??????????

I hope this storm does not hit your area to hard. I know they are evacuating the coastal regions and some states to the west side of the states. I hope you make it through the frankenstorm ok.

Thanks, Charles! Lovely tree, Sally!

I think we've made all the preparation we can. Now just hoping the husband can get home from work before this darn thing makes landfall this afternoon.
