This morning I did a quick draw exercise. Gave myself 1 hour or less. I used acrylic and painted a portrait of a pig......I'm working on loosening up. I tend to get tight quickly.
Well this pig is loose and a bit interesting.
Have a painting floating around in my head that I hope to work on later. Will be gone for a while today. I'll use oil for the new one. I mostly paint alla prima.
So what are you working on????????

Re: What are you working on??????????

I was a little unsure how the composition would turn out. Though I am happy with the end result. I am waiting to see more of your work. The canvas is completely handmade though stretching it did prove to be difficult during the process. Though like I said I will be doing another beachscape and landscape.

Re: What are you working on??????????

While I'm painting a fairly large mirrored blue mountain based on this painting.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/107904845/original-acrylic-art-ocean-clouds

I'm using the excess paint and I'm painting little 5x7 abstracts I'm going to title "brick" No.1, 2 etc.

I want to add more variety to my gallery and a lower price point for original art... I'm guessing that's where the market is on Etsy.

Because the images are a bit larger than 5x7, I was thinking of selling them loose in a clear plastic sleeve with a matte and some slivers of linen tape. "Assemble as you please" style. That way the customer isn't stuck with it the way I thought it looked best in a matte... Or I may just paste them to a backing piece and fit them into the matte... Haven't decided...

I may not even attempt to sell these on Etsy...

Re: What are you working on??????????

Thanks SKCole, I thought it was very strange too that someone would go out of their way to put me down. If they were trying to get rid of the competition it didn't work! I'm still here!
I'm working on choosing some pieces to put in a local gallery and thinking about my next painting. I just finished this one
https://www.etsy.com/listing/110125713/original-oil-painting-landscapetropical
so I'm doing all the posting and promoting for it right now.
It's also time to buy more canvas so I'll be shopping online for that.
I'll be doing housework in between all that!
Have a great Saturday!

^ I love this. Especially the background portion of land with the trees and building. You can really sense the warmth from the sun and the gusts of the breeze. Very nice work.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Jennifer , love the beachscape you have done. I have just finished my watercolor painting after four days of work. Its actually a mixture of acrylic and watercolor paints. I hope this piece portrays the view of a small creek in the woods. though it mainly shows water and leaves. My next piece will be of a landscape possibly in acrylic.

Re: What are you working on??????????

I'm working on my first oil painting. It's a landscape/figurative painting. I think I'd been trying to convince myself that acrylic was my medium for some reason but I recently realized that it didn't let me paint what I really wanted to.

Re: What are you working on??????????

lovely beach painting Jennifer! it's got a real atmosphere.

I've been testing out wet-on-wet technique in oils this week, and find it really enjoyable! I'm showing at a local group exhibition in a cafe soon that's 'home' themed - so I gave it a go, with two sort-of still lives (v simple ones that is!) and a simple abstract... I'll work up to balance of tone and line and more complex composition in the next lot of small paintings i intend to do :)

Loving all the paintings here.
Kallista, just to warn you oil can be addicting. Have fun!

Re: What are you working on??????????

Just pull another handmade canvas out and got it ready for watercolor. Most people tell me It can't be possibly done. That is I am assuming due to the watercolor paints. I found after many of trial an error process's that you can use certain material for watercolor canvas's. I am still debating what to paint onto this canvas. Possibly a landscape, though more then likely another beachscape.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Charles how about a still life from you, do you like painting them......I painted watercolor onto a reg. canvas but it I used it just as a underpainting....I did buy a couple of the canvases made for watercolor and painted a zebra on it and it worked quite well. did have some beading problem that was a bit of a struggle that I worked out......the lady was very happy with the painting.

Re: What are you working on??????????

I personally do like still life paintings, though I tend to mess them up with over working things on those type of paintings. I guess in all respect most things can be a still life. I just am a little wary of still life paintings due to I guess a style of perfection I try to go for. Realizing that all works have there own little quirks in them. I tend to paint things I get infatuated by like water.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Hey guys, just a bit of creative marketing experience that I thought you might benefit from. I had a still life painting listed that was a pic of an apple branch in an old Bubbies pickle jar.

I sent the link to the listing to the Bubbies Pickle company--and they bought it. The owner wants to hang it in their offices.

I had a feeling tjhey would buy it because there have been a high number of hits on that listing over the past couple of days.

Re: What are you working on??????????

I've been working on an 8"x8" floral still life, one of a few scenes I photographed at a farmer's market earlier this month. While most small paintings take me about 2-3 days to complete, this has been one of those pieces that refuse to end and has dragged on for 2 weeks (mostly because I've just been working for 20 mins. and then getting frustrated). I got it to a point where I don't hate it but I'm not crazy about (I keep seeing it as too flat and controlled, something I try to avoid). Things like the glass vase are definite traps for me where I can't help but get sucked into ultra fine detailing, which ends up feeling more like arduous work than painting. Right when I got it to a point I'm ok with and was ready to complete it, a crowned tooth I've been having problems with for the past 2 years decided to get a bacterial infection and the whole right side of my face swelled up to elephant man proportions. I had to go to the dentist for emergency iv antibiotics and pain relievers, and I am in bed for the next few days until the swelling goes down and I can get my tooth extracted. The antibiotics make me too nauseous to do anything, so I am left to stare at this painting that was so close to finished. On the bright side, it gives me time to come on here and complain about it ;-) What do you guys think of it so far?

_Mike

Re: What are you working on??????????

Bad luck with the tooth work! what a palava.

The yellow roses is a great painting, so far loose but evocative with a great sense of light. Had a quick look at your blog, v good paintings. I particularly like this one http://mryczek.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/contribution.html

I've got some boards gessoed and ready for some more 'alla prima' oil work tonight, should be fun! and yes, true - it certainly seems like it'll become quite addictive...might have to sort out some kind of transportation device for panels so that I can do them when I'm out and about too :)

when they're dry and I've float framed them, I might actually make some listings for them too!

Re: What are you working on??????????

SK congrats and thanks for sharing
Mike sorry about the tooth, does not sound like fun. The struggling with the painting I totally understand
I worked 5 hours on a 24x28 oil and thinking the best thing to do is to black it out and start over.....Hate it when painting just don't work.....
Beatrice love the float frames....do you make your own?
Lovely painting

Re: What are you working on??????????

Oil painters, don't you hate it when linseed oil gets on your fingers and you can't get the smell off to save your life?

Yuck. Linseed oil. Double-Yuck.
