This morning I did a quick draw exercise. Gave myself 1 hour or less. I used acrylic and painted a portrait of a pig......I'm working on loosening up. I tend to get tight quickly.
Well this pig is loose and a bit interesting.
Have a painting floating around in my head that I hope to work on later. Will be gone for a while today. I'll use oil for the new one. I mostly paint alla prima.
So what are you working on????????

Re: What are you working on??????????

I finished my commission as well. It was a 16" x 20" oil, a commissioned copy of this print:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/114315762/giclee-print-of-an-original-oil-painting?ref=pr_shop

The first painting (from which the print was made) is in a private collection, so I only had the print to use as a reference. Nevertheless I actually like the copy better, probably because the original was painted outside, at high noon, on a 100F summer's day, and I was in a hurry to finish it!

Re: What are you working on??????????

So my customer didn't end up taking the commission so that's still up for grabs!

She did, however buy 2 other paintings from my shop. 2 of the paintings that lead her to my website to begin with. And she'd like to do an even larger commission on 2 canvases later on, once I'm done with my current commitments.

The children's book work is my biggest priority now!

I've gone through everyone's stuff and favourited a bunch today and will continue to!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Morgan

How do you handle cases like that? Did you charge him or her a "kill fee" to make up for some of the time you put in on it?

Re: What are you working on??????????

Here's a link to the second version of my bear painting. I didn't list it on Etsy because it was an off-line commission, but I posted it on my Pinterest page:

Re: What are you working on??????????

SK Cole, your commission looks great! Love it! Congrats :)

Donnarose, thank you! Hope you had a good full day of painting... looking forward to seeing your work!

Morgan, I love the vibrancy in your cityscapes! Congrats on the two sales and best of luck with selling your larger piece :)

I'm hoping to do a nightscape tomorrow if I can fit it in!

Re: What are you working on??????????

I wasn't too worried about her backing out from buying it because I know it will eventually sell. It's really soooo good! I've listed it here but I doubt I'll sell it on Etsy...

I've only been selling via my website (which I haven't updated in years) since all the changes with browse and the new activity feed... and direct checkout and gift cards only available to US shops. No sales and I promote like crazy here... Not sure what to tell you. I'm sticking it out though!

<-- Disgruntled Etsy customer! >:(

Re: What are you working on??????????

Oh, Morgan is it this one:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/100376336/original-acrylic-painting-granville-at

It's very good. Can you post your website here? I only have a blog but it doesn't get much traffic.

You are right, the new changes don't seem to have helped the sellers at all.

Rachel, thanks very much for the kind words! I hope to get more commissions, but I realize now that I am more likely to get them from word of mouth rather than on Etsy.

Re: What are you working on??????????

That's the panting, yes :) it's 36" x 48" and is now gracing my living room wall! Looks awesome too :D

I'm trying to get my website updated so I can submit these sorts of paintings to the local galleries. Since they're local scenes in a popular, contemporary style they should get snapped up quickly for decent $!

I messaged you my website but anyone can google my name. I'm all over the place ;) Been doing this for years!

Re: What are you working on??????????

Thanks!

Yeah, when you 'like' something on a page or external site sometimes you can't see your own post. It shows up in some well hidden activity feed somewhere. FB made changes their site that are really confusing. Mind boggling, even. :S

I did have a sale for two prints today... and then the buyer requested to cancel, stating that she chose the wrong payment method... C'est la vie!

We'll see what happens there.

Another busy day grinding it out!

Good luck everyone with your Christmas orders!

Re: What are you working on??????????

i tried something new this week... molding paste as the base for my paintings. and love the way you can create a variety of textures so easily. i read that you should let it dry on the canvas about a day before you paint and that you should seal it (i used varnish) so it won't soak up the paint.
other than that i'm just hoping for some more sales (aren't we all?!)
i wishing right along with Morgan in great Christmas sales for everyone!!! :)

Diane, what brand of molding paste do you use? That sounds great.

Re: What are you working on??????????

SK it's by Golden. It's rather gooey sticky and i try to keep my fingers out of it by using a palette knife, but no matter how careful i try to be, i still end up with my fingers in a mess! :D

Re: What are you working on??????????

I'm hoping to get some little box paintings done today- although I have a couple pieces to list and some to ship. I desperately need to paint! Christmas sales are going well for my shop- but that means more packaging/shipping and less painting....

Happy Holiday sales everyone!

Re: What are you working on??????????

I've been working on building my Pinterest board if anyone is interested. There's a lot of stuff from my shop, but there is a lot of stuff from my private collection that's not listed in my shop, tool.

Here it is:

Re: What are you working on??????????

Question.
What is the benefit or purpose of Pinterest.....I don't know anything about it.
Is it something that takes lots of time?
This is my fav. team even if there are just a handful of us sharing info. etc. But its a great handful.

Re: What are you working on??????????

Pinterest just gives your artwork more exposure--people "repin" your pics on their own boards and then their followers see it and then repin, etc. and so on.

No, it doesn't take much time. All you do is post photos.

I got a new commission from a relative who wants to give a friend an original cartoon. Again, not that big of a job,, but work is trickling in. The friend is wealthy and this may lead to other work!

Re: What are you working on??????????

Find out how many treasuries you're in...

Saw this in Etsy Success and wanted to share! Kinda fun:

"To find out how many treasuries you've been in, go to the Etsy home page, scroll down the the More Ways to Shop menu (on the left, below the Categories) and click on Treasury. Then type your shop name in the "Search in Treasuries" box."

You also need to subtract the number you've made from that total :)
