Day 15: Revise tags and titles for your percentage of listings

Ok, we're half way there. After today half of your listings will have matching tags and titles. Sounds good, right?

My tip for today is:

As a non native speaker I sometimes have difficulties finding synonyms for certain colours and items. So I started a spreadsheet where I keep track of all the useful keywords for everything I sell.
Where do I find them? I research Etsy, magazines, online stores, etc. And I ask my fellow team members.
Not all of them turn out to be great keywords, but some bring lots of new traffic.

I am editing with Betsi now. I am looking at tags and titles and also updating images while I'm there! One bad thing about Betsi is that you can't crop the thumbnail. So after I'm all done there, I have to go back to etsy to check if any of my thumbnails need to be adjusted.

Anyone know a way to crop thumbnails on Betsi?

So due to life I am officially behind.
And my shop is taking a mini nise dive while I tried to focus on this stuff
Other things had to be pushed aside
As my time to work on etsy is currently very low.

Stepping away a bit and finishing cleanse on my own time. If I can get back on track I will come thru to update progress.

I can say that since I started this cleanse and fixing tags, titles and even categories (some were wrong gasp!) I have seen a big increase in traffic and sales so this is working. Even though it can be a pain at times the effort has been well worth it for me.

Still need to work on quite a few listings and redo photos. I have some old photos on here from when I first started with Etsy but this cleanse has been the kick in the pants I have needed to elevate my game.

Still some phrases from title that are not in tags, such as "wide band". You have some phrases matching, but not exactly. It seems as though you are still writing title first, then creating tags.

Instead, try to make all the tags first, then take those exact tags (4-7 of them) and string them together to make your title. You can separate the phrases (tags) with commas to make it easier for the shopper to read.

The reasoning behind this is:

The way search works (usually) is when a shopper types "wide band ring" into search bar, it will see all of the listings that have "wide band ring" exactly in title AND "wide band ring" exactly in one tag. After all those listings, then it shows items who have it in one place (either in tags, or in titles). Then after those, it shows items who have it spread out or a different order than what the shopper typed, "ring with wide band" for example.

So it is extremely important to

1. Think of good phrases that shoppers use
2. Have that phrase in title
3. Have that phrase in one tag exactly the same as it is in title

@ Olya: Here are some tags I thought of for this item:

(hand) painted jewelry
blue silver jewelry
adjustable boho ring
silver boho ring
silver woodland ring
everyday jewelry
everyday silver ring

You could go broader with some of these tags. i.e. someone may be looking for tree branch jewelry, not specifically looking for a ring.

Ok, I have revised and re-listed this item many times and still get next to no views or sales. Any suggestions? ( Don't look at the pics! I will be revising these soon!)

Mary, I think the pictures may be the reason you're not getting views.

I did notice, however, that you have blue princess and princess necklace as tags, but no blue princess necklace in the title. I also think little girl art necklace is probably not going to be a common phrase for people searching for something like this.

"Princess jewelry" needs to be in the title if you want to be relevant (There are 41,000+ pieces of princess jewelry.) otherwise, it's a wasted tag.

I dropped 'Princess jewelry' from the title after looking at the search results because the other items were very blingy and pink and-or Disney and figured that it was the wrong category. But maybe I figured wrong.

Like Rachel, I'm already seeing more interest. I'm working with a buyer on a wholesale order on one set of items!

I'm doing this section by section. Did the swaddles the other day, today tackled bibs. Found a lot of ancient listings that need new photos, new SEO, spend a lot of the day retaking photos, took inventory and found 5 sets of bibs that somehow disappeared from listing inventory - I think last year sometimes I edited a listing when I meant to copy a listing. Will have those relisted tomorrow and all the new photo swapped into the existing listings. Also cleaning up the SEO on the older ones.

This is a great exercise!

I think the photo of the colour chart is too much. In a thumbnail you can barely see what you are selling. I would use just a photo of the shoe for the first one and put colour charts later.

In the description, I would like to know how are the words written on the shoe - embroidered, hand stitched,.... Also you can add here to contact you with the word they want.

You have: 3. Choose your color, if the color you chose is not there because of the many options I offer, please leave me a note at check out.
Where do I choose the colour? There's no drop down menu for that, so I guess I have to contact you in any case, right? It's a bit confusing...

I would put Product detail higher up .. before the How to order part.

And if it is possible, all your listings have a photo of just one shoe. I think two would be better.

First sentence in description has a typo. "Customized Bridal Ballerina Flat Shoes are a stunning!" Should be "Customized Bridal Ballerina Flat Shoes are stunning!"

You have "dyable" in tags/titles. Isn't it "dyeable"?

I don't see the word "wedding" anywhere.

You only used 12 tags. One of your tags is "flat". No one word tags, please. How about "flat wedding shoe"? Then add that to title too.

I agree with Maja above. How will the words be written on there????

Shipping seems high. Have you weighed them and gotten an estimate? I'd rather lower shipping and raise price.

Hang in there, Danialy. Lots of work, but it gets easier as you practice more.
