Payments in two parts by customs orders.

I have a custom order. The customer wants to pay half of the total cost at the beginning. And the other half before shipment. I would like to know how I divide these payments into the personalized order.

For custom orders that have multiple payments, I use the variation feature in etsy. I create a specific listing for the customer then add a variation called "payment." Then the drop down choices are "first payment," "second payment," etc. The nice thing about using the variation feature is you do not have to create multiple listings and you can assign the price to each payment.

I require full payment to be made before I ship though.
