Getting Digital Items Seen and Sold

Hey guys!

I sell mainly digital downloads. I feel like I am having a hard time getting people to purchase things. Possibly because they are digital? I've tried upping my keywords and reducing prices, as well as reaching out on other sites, i.e. facebook, posting to pinterest, and instagram, but I'm still not having as much success as I'd like!

I've posted my shop here so you can be brutally honest: SweetTruthsDesign.etsy.com

Are digital downloads just tougher to sell in general? Any and all input is totally welcome!!!

Thanks!

Tessa

Re: Getting Digital Items Seen and Sold

Hi Tessa,
I don't know about selling digital downloads on Etsy specifically. I do know about marketing them in a general "web marketing" kind of way. (That's my professional background.) The best way that most companies market digital downloads is by content marketing. That essentially means creating content like blog posts or videos about the product and then linking to them from the content. That way Google will find the key words for your product in content rather than in an e-commerce posting. (Google gives keywords preference when they appear in actual content rather than in product descriptions.) It's essential that you have a blog for this, then do social media posts pointing to the content article/video. Medium is a great way to blog and posting part of your article on Google Plus and pointing to the full article is essential as well. That's a labor intensive but essentially low out-of-pocket way to market digital downloads. (But you should also be doing Google Ads through Etsy.)
