Hi Rosy - The way I understand creating and selling your own patterns is that if you put a statement in your description that will be a sufficient copyright for the things we do. I figured with my pattern there wasn't a whole lot I could do about it if someone decided to copy it. Some people will copy and dealing with that is probably just part of being in business.
1. The first thing you need to do is put your pattern into words :-) Also, if you want to add photos get those too. (I added photos in my pattern - some other people do and some don't - it's totally up to you)
2. Next you want to take that pattern and save it as a pdf file. (Verify that your word processor can save as a pdf file.) Any questions about this let me know.
3. Then you will want to make a new listing. When doing that, one of the questions asked in making the listing is "Is this a physical item or a digital item"? You mark the digital item and then it asks you to upload your pdf file. You add the file and then continue on with your listing as normal filling out the title, description, tags etc.
If I were you, I would note in my description that this is my original pattern and items made from this pattern can or cannot (whichever you choose) be sold for profit. My personal choice on my pattern was to allow people to sell the items made from my pattern - I asked that they include credit to my shop for the pattern.
The instant download described above is definitely the way to go because it is all done automatically. You will just get notice of a sale and you don't have to do anything else at all :-)
I am really excited for you - this will be terrific and I'm anxious to see your new listing.
If you have any more questions - please ask! Anyone else have info for Rosy please chime in :-)
Blessings,
Sandy
