What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

This thread is called What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote? I am most excited about what this will become! Sometimes the greatest truths in life can be summed up in such short sweet sentences.... Give us some good ones to think about!

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

This is my favorite: "if it is going to be, it's up to me" but I don't know who wrote it. :)

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

I have so many. But this is the one on my Facebook profile right now. Actually it's two:

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment."

"Let yourself shine."

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

Hmmm... well, not to sound too spiritual, but I really *love* this one: "Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is G-d, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source." ~ Leo Tolstoy

(I kind of interpret it as the ultimate 'Do Unto Others,' you know?)

Ohhhh, kittybutt! I love the following things: You quote Thich Nhat Hanh, you created a card with the same name as my cat, Esmeralda, and you live in Princeton. I'm a Jersey girl, too ;)

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

"The humble man receives praise the way a clean window takes the light of the sun. The truer and more intense the light is, the less you see of the glass and the more you see of the sun." ~ Thomas Merton

Just one of several hundred quotes I'll probably be sharing here!

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

Here is a good one from one of my favorite writers whom I will be talking about soon: Ralph Waldo Trine ( I guess Ralph Waldo was a very popular name back then!) he said:

“To get up each morning with the resolve to be happy... is to set our own conditions to the events of each day. To do this is to condition circumstances instead of being conditioned by them.”

It's hard to do! But I believe that is true! - Troy

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

Such wonderful quotes!!!
This quote is from an amazing book entitled "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. I think it fits this thread nicely ;)

"Among the Ibo the art of conversation is regarded very highly, and proverbs are the palm-oil with which words are eaten"

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

that is kind of surreal serascarousel! I like that one!

Here is another from Ralph Waldo Trine:

"Within yourself lies the cause of whatever enters into your
life. To come into the full realization of your own awakened
inner powers is to be able to condition your life in exact
accord with what you would have it."

this guy predated "the secret" by 100 years! Again, full book report on RWT coming soon:) - Troy

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

Wow Troy! You're posting some pretty powerful stuff! I love it! That's funny that you mention surrealism because that's one of my favorite types of art :)

This one is from John Keats and feels more Impressionistic ;)

"Give me books, fruit, french wine and fine weather and a little music out of doors, played by somebody I do not know"

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

thedots: i'm now gonna have to look up Liz Lemon:)!

This is from one of my other favorite authors, this guy's name is Prentice Mulford. He too was in the New Thought era which I hope to write about here sometime... this quote always sticks with me

"Goodwill to others is constructive thought. It helps build you up. It is good for your body. It makes vour blood purer, your muscles stronger, and your whole form more symmetrical in shape. It is the real elixir of life. The more such thought you attract to you, the more life you will have."

Something to live by.- troy

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

"You can't get rainbows without a little rain"

The beloved Mrs. Dolly Parton. She has such wisdom and knowledge and lots of hairspray!

I always think of that when I am having a rough day.

I love this one Troy:

"Goodwill to others is constructive thought. It helps build you up. It is good for your body. It makes vour blood purer, your muscles stronger, and your whole form more symmetrical in shape. It is the real elixir of life. The more such thought you attract to you, the more life you will have."

Good thing to live by!!

love me some Dolly!

Another favorite author Norman Vincent Peale:

"Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all."

Re: What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?

Wow... you guys are all so amazing. I'm loving the quotes! Here's one that's a bit more obscure, yet it's from a very famous artist. Sometimes, when I'm in my studio, I think about this one:

"I know for sure that I have an instinct for color, and that it will come to me more and more, that painting is in the very marrow of my bones." ~ Vincent Van Gogh in a letter to his brother, Theo Van Gogh, 3 September 1882
