Many pages have been closed down recently for running competitions which go against Facebook guidelines. The following is an extract from the guidelines:
"You will not administer a promotion through Facebook, except through an application on the Facebook Platform. Administration includes operation of any element of the promotion, such as collecting entries, conducting a drawing, judging entries, or notifying winners."
This means you can use an application to run your give-away! In this tutorial I will show you how to use an application to create a competition tab.
First of all, you need to create an entry form!
There are many websites which offer this service, but I like en.codeeta.com.
1. Go to en.codeeta.com and register for free!
2. At the top of the page, click the widgets tab if you're not already on it.
3. On this page, click the "create a form" widget button (It looks like a survey being filled out). Give your form a title. I'll call mine "competition".
4. Click the tick to configure your form. You'll be taken to the builder page, where you can construct your form.
4. There will already be a blue box with "FORM TITLE" in it. You can click this to edit the title in the panel on the left. Let's call it "Entry Form"
6. There will also be a text box which is labelled "text". You can edit the label. I'll call it "Name".
7. In order to contact the winner, you'll need their email address, so let's create an email box. Click the Elements tab at the top of the builder. Under "Advanced Elements" there is an email box! Click to add it to your form.
8. Save the changes.
9. Click the notify button at the top of the page. Here we'll set how we want to receive the entries.
10. Enter your email address into the box on the right of the page and save.
11. Finally, go to the export tab. Under "Export to your web" click, iframe. You'll need the code in the box to the right in a moment!
Next you need to make your tab!
1. Make sure you are logged into your personal facebook account, not your business page.
2. Go to this app:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/apps/application.php?id=190322544333196 and in the left hand column click "Add to my Page". Click Add next to your page in the pop-up that appears.
3. Go to your page and click the new tab on your page which is titled "Welcome". We'll change the title later.
4. Paste the code from Codeeta in this box. You should also add information about your competition here, such as what entrants can win and the terms and conditions. You'll need some basic HTML knowledge to write this page. This page has easy to follow tutorials so you can learn the basics:

You can use the iframe app to only show the entry form to your fans, which is really useful!
