Re: Chocolat is our Book for Jan/Feb

Just finished reading the book again, for the fourth time! I don't want to spoil the wonderful book so I am not sure how to start posting my thoughts on it.

Suffice to say that one of the reasons I enjoy the book is the imagery that Harris brings to the reader's mind.

Let me step back a bit. I loved watching the movie but a few story lines were detracted from the book (isn't that often the case?), which made the movie seamless. The movie is eye candy with delicious costumes, which seem mostly from the 50s, and breath taking scenery, and for the most part tries hard to go along with the book's theme of magic in the chocolat mixture.

It's further in the book that a storyline is introduced on little cat's feet, sneaking in, and giving one pause, as it did for Vivane, sparking memories. How she deals with the memories is something to think about.

Yay I'm excited. I just put both the book and the movie on hold at the library. I totally heart my library!

Loved, loved this book. Putting the movie on hold to see if it can live up to the book.

I think I've read it, but would have been years ago? Is it old enough for me to have read in the 80's? I'll have to re-read!

Re: Chocolat is our Book for Jan/Feb

In the book, Viviane and her daughter have lived in Paris for five years, long enough for her to get settled somewhat, and start a small chocolate shop. Then those "magical winds" came along again...I wonder if she moves with them because she learned that from her mother's restlessness? In the book, a vague reason is given as to why her mother is always on the move.

I might not have time to read the book with taking four graduate level classes...I'm crazy, I know...but I did see the movie and I'm thinking of what I can make :)

I do remember being super impressed with the chocolate shop set in the movie-fabulous colors in addtion to the scrumptious chocolate! Not sure how to translate this into a project. Will think on it!

@LaGilyard: You can also just watch the movie for this month without reading the book. That might make it a bit easier to manage with four grad classes. I remember how busy I was in grad school and I have much respect for anyone who can do both grad school and Etsy. You must be a good juggler. :)

Re: Chocolat is our Book for Jan/Feb

In the book, Armande can "see" Pantoufle, Anouk's invisible"friend" and asks Vivanne about it. Vianne herself can barely make out Pantoufle at times so how did Armande know about it the first day they met?

Armande is not related to Vianne and Anouk. Is it possible that Armande has a gift? She tells Vivanne that she knows about the North Wind and what it bought into the village that windy day.

I think I'm joining a little late to be able to read this book and create something by the end of the month, but I'm excited about this group! I just joined and this is perfect for me.... I'm always reading anyway! I look forward to seeing what everyone makes.

Not my kind of book at all...but I loved it!! I've been inspired by one particular part of the story but now I've got to try and translate that into beads :)

Re: Chocolat is our Book for Jan/Feb

Loved the movie- planning to download the book and read it this week on my kindle! (Nothing like reading about chocolate while at the gym!)

I whipped up a fun bracelet with lots of chocolates and added it to the flickr pool. Do most people also list their creations for sale on etsy?

inedible- I don't know about what others did, but I listed my bag last time and sold it pretty quickly to a friend who keeps lurking around my shop! Must get cracking on this chocolate thing-off to look at your lovely item!!

Re: Chocolat is our Book for Jan/Feb

I read the book years ago, and loved it - same with the movie (watched, that is). I'm relying on that until I can pick up a personal copy of the book, but the thing is, I already have an idea right now. :3 So excited.

Oh yes I love Pantoufe. I'm still working on reading the book. (Free time has been non existent) But so far the book has been wonderful. Every line is candy for the brain.
