Re: Winding into August Chat

Good morning. Looks a lot better this morning, saw a star looking up. Passed the sniff test. I think.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Light enough now to see it's still somewhat smoky but good enough to get outside as normal.

If you're happy with one star then you've had it bad CG. Glad it's clearing up.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Good afternoon, since I missed this morning. Hubs took the day off so we could take his dad back in for bloodwork. Then the boys mowed, hubs relaxed and played with K, and I have finished two orders. : D

Re: Winding into August Chat

Good Afternoon. Busy here today. Had a meeting at 11, then work has been nuts.

Much cooler here today...high of only 81F. It's glorious!!! I keep trying to send the rain to the West.

Re: Winding into August Chat

We are getting some thunder. I played tennis and my muscles are still tired from that 3-1/2 hrs in the heat on Thursday. Hubs went to grocery shop. What a good guy he is!

Re: Winding into August Chat

No thunder here, but it looks like we'll be getting cooler soon. Yay!

High school orientation tonight. It was kind of fun.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Made a big batch of pesto last night and now I feel all garlicky. The whole house smells of garlic too. And I only harvested the top halves of the plants so they wouldn't flower.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Good morning.
Have a small show tonight. Not expecting much, but should be fun.
Still no 100+ days in the forecast. Quite pleased about that. However, we are expecting to have some of the California smoke blowing in. Seems impossible, but we had African dust blowing in last month.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Mmm, Esme - frsh pesto. Yum.

Kit, have fun tonight. :)

I think out humidity is supposed to drop in the next few days, which means it'll be SO MUCH cooler. I. Can't. Wait. The AC is still out in the van. *sigh*

Re: Winding into August Chat

must have been pesto day Esme, I made a batch too - but mine flowered so I cut the flowers off and still used the leaves. Thinking of doing a pesto pizza for dinner tonight. How can you not love the smell of garlic :)

taking the cat in to get her toenails done this morning, too hesitant to do it myself with my left holding hand still not quite right

Re: Winding into August Chat

Cat pedicure is definitely a two-person job around here. M wraps Watson in a towel, I clip his nails.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Good morning. Yesterday turned into a normal hazy summer day. Looks like today will be the same. Deep breathing feels good.

Not everywhere though, and it may be smoky again tomorrow.

Re: Winding into August Chat

I'm not brave enough to do our cat's nails - she's a little too wild for that. Besides, in the rare moments she gets outside, I prefer she be able to defend herself if necessary. We have coons and possums in our little urban neighborhood.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Trust me Erin- they can still defend themselves quite well, it's just the overly long tips that get clipped. For whatever reason my kitty has decided she doesn't love any of the scratching items that would normally keep her nail length in check naturally so until I find her something she will use consistently- off to the pedi vet!

She doesn't seem to get those much. We've got hardwoods, so maybe that's it?

Re: Winding into August Chat

I do love garlic Pennee, but I was at work and felt I was walking in my own little garlic cloud.

I had a frustrating time trying to solder the jump ring closed that sits between a swivel clasp and another jump ring. My flame is too big so I have no precision. It’s the last thing I need to do on this bracelet, then it’s done! Annoying.

Cookie has found her own clawing stations, all outside. An oak tree, and the wall outside our back door (pine).

Re: Winding into August Chat

Good Afternoon.

Cat claw trimming for the trio at our house is definitely a 2 person job. It takes one person alone to hold the gigantic Ginger! At 20lbs and 35 inches in length...it takes both hands to hold her! DH will hold them, while I do the trimming. All of ours are pretty good about having their claws trimmed, so that's nice. It helps that they are all much older.

Glad to hear the smoke is starting to clear, CG.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Maybe it's safer for cats where you are Esme? Besides natural predators, other non vaccinated cats that spread disease and people who hate cats all worry me too much. Plus we have leash laws in MD - no pets are to be outside without being on a leash unless they stay on your property. Mine is too little to trust to stay anywhere! I wish she'd even scratch on my jewelry studio stump!

Re: Winding into August Chat

It’s freer here. I think there are more outdoor than indoor cats here. Stuff does happen, but not that much. Cookie isn’t much of a huntress but she does defend her territory. There are a few other cats roaming around; I have never seen a stray cat though.

Re: Winding into August Chat

Same here, Pennee. We have way too many predators where we are. My neighbor lost a cat to bobcat fever. It's spread by ticks that carry a virus from bobcats. Not to mention the eagles, owls, fox and coyotes all lurking around. Even my big kitty wouldn't be safe from all of that.
