Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

Yes, Pennee, Part of the deal. Our Mazda was done all by internet and they brought the paperwork to our house when they delivered it. This dealer made us come down to the dealership to do the paperwork, which was such a waste of time. I'm sure they did it in large part to encourage us to bond with their dealership, get the tour, yada yada. The next time I do this I'm going to go with a smaller dealership that's willing to do the transaction all online and at my kitchen table again.

Happy November, and congrats on the new car Laura!

I finally got my Rio package today. I ordered a month ago. For a small pack, it should go much faster.

Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

Happy November. Let the rush begin..

That does make sense, CG. So you're saying that 18 gauge may actually retain more heat longer because of its mass?

I ended up putting the larger tip on the torch. I had a heavy (12g round wire) infinity link to solder in the center and a piece of 12g half round on each side of the link down the length. I also set up pieces of a broken brick around to bounce heat back. I think everything is soldered but I stuck it in the pickle (heat off) and went to sleep. I have to check and make sure. You'll hear if it's not.

Congrats on the new ride, Laura.

Good morning.

Thanks for the shiny new thread, Susan.

Laura, have fun with the new truck.

I spent most of yesterday in bed, feeling awful. But I feel a bit better today. I hope I can get some work done.

Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

Terri, not exactly that. Aside from everything else there will be two sort of competing or cooperating physical factors.

Mass will conduct heat away from the torched area, and surface area will let heat escape to the air.

If you take say a flat copper bracelet length blank and hold the heat in one place in the middle you'll see the colours go toward each end. If you alternate on two spots say 1" either side of the middle, some of the heat will move towards the middle. Lots is still wasted to the ends but more will head towards the centre....but, in practice there are many other variables that may override this being a factor in success. Just something to consider....

I'm not shy about using two torches when I need to on bigger pieces like that.

Two torches, ultralite kiln, gas stove top, any heat source is fair game.

Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

So... after a DM conversation on twitter with corporate about my cable services which have not yet been restired (because the line isnt attached to the house anymore). Did finally get a tech out here (after two no shows). But he left without doing anything. Because he said hes not allowed to run the line until the eletric is back up. Corporate told me he would run a temp line. The tech looked at me like i had turned green with spots.

Im not feeling the @comcastcares tagline very much right now.

Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

So if you happened to be off grid with solar and a generator you couldn't hook up cable internet?

That's a rule that will be changing.

Re: November Chattymetalsmiths Talking Turkey (and everything else)

I am digging through my kitchen and getting rid of stuff not needed and trying to tidy up my shelves for the imminent tear-down. While I know it's good for us and the house and all that - I hate doing this stuff.

My kitchen will look awesome when it's done, though. Yes, it will.

Happy November!

I did a shake down of my cabinets last month. I have so much more room. I need to do the pantry, but can't motivate myself to do it.
