I wish I could see a picture of that kitchen Wendy. I cannot imagine all that lost storage space with no upper cabinets on the walls. I really dislike the racks with pots hanging down look and love that my everyday studded is right at eye level and the stuff higher is stored for less use. Trying to picture where I would put all my stuff. I have a lot of cooking stuff. I even have one solid wall in my basement covered with shelves to hold less used appliances. Mixmaster, woks, fondue and stock pots. I just can't imagine less cabinets
I don't know how you guys who follow a multitude of FB and IG stuff (me too, stuffed) keep up with it. I just dip in occasionally and have no time.
Pennee, those pots hanging down thing drives me nuts. and those 'pass throughs' that are at my eye level.
I'm having lots of lower storage, and on a close wall on the other side of the long island a floor to ceiling shallow (10"?) storage cabinet about 6 feet wide. and just around a door into the mud/room/office area another pantry shelf, floor to ceiling. I've just been in too many places where the upper cabinets intrude visually, and there's really no need to have items stored that close when they're used a few times a year.
I have seen kitchens without upper cabinets that are really nice. I couldn't do it because my kitchen is tiny and I needed all the storage I could get. And things on open shelves get so dusty.
I do have a big vintage pottery collection which is colorful (yes, I do like color!) and I keep it on open shelves in my family room which is close to the kitchen. I keep the things I use frequently on the lower shelves. Upper shelves get the stuff I never use but love to look at. Collectible things. They get super dusty and it's a project to do a dusting day on that stuff.
Yes, Susan. I've got my own pics of it - soooooo cool. And having worked in even a smaller scale museum, what they described is how all that goes down. Inch by inch and detail by detail. I don't even want to know how much that insurance rider cost them. They've got Vermeers coming in October. O_o
One of my favorite things is a magnetic strip mounted on the backsplash above the counter for my kitchen knives. When I redid my kitchen I got rid of any cooking knife I didn't LOVE and now all of my favorite knives are mounted within arm's reach. The magnet is super strong (I think I got this thing at IKEA) so it needs to be mounted on the wall really well or you'll pull it down! Having a deja vu. Maybe I have talked about this here before.
That's cool Erin! And feel better. Hope you didn't catch the bug I have. I am a bit better today...but not 100%. And dh says he's starting to feel icky.
That just reminded me, we looked into having our wedding reception at the rock and roll hall of fame....it was "doable" until we saw the insurance policy we would have to purchase, whoa.
The history museum (you would dine with dinosaur bones) wasn't nearly as expensive, and there was no separate insurance policy required.
The art museum didn't allow receptions at that time.
We had it at the zoos rainforest (no insurance required)
That's the first appearance of an 'other' charge. Funny, it coincides with my starting etsy shipping labels. That shouldn't be a conversion fee, it does say 'there is no fee associated with calculating the exchange rate'.
Had a nice sale yesterday, BTW. I had a bunch of old hats I wanted to sell. Listed some on Etsy. A woman convoed me that her daughter was having a "tea party" bridal shower (a big Kate Middleton fan) and they were buying scads of vintage hats for the party. I sent her pics of other hats I had and ended up sending her a box of ten hats yesterday. Feels so good to be destashing. She's going to send me photos of the ladies wearing my hats in the Fall. Fun.
for matthew, while he waits for the doctor, ----------- Thank you. I'd love to learn skills like that. I don't think I have time, though... according to the "about" info, they say it takes ten years to learn how to do that.
What are 'Canadian Post taxes'? When I do a label it shows a breakdown of everything including the nefarious 'fuel surcharge', and whatever applicable taxes. They're paid upfront as far as I can tell. I need to investigate.
I finally had some studio time last night. I have been working with a really fun and fancy cut (narrow teardrop with a very pointy tip) clear quartz. I will take some pictures tonight to show you guys. I'm pairing with a really pretty chrome diopside stone.
Matthew, if you're round...can you clarify about my apparent need to log out/log in or clear cache thing so I can see the policies part of 'shipping and policies'?
It comes and goes, and has been happening to me ever since I was in the shipping test. I'm out of that now but it's still happening.
I may want to mention this in 'bugs' but don't want to look foolish. I can't be the only one with W7 and IE11. It would suggest that quite a few shoppers can't see 'policies' with that button. It is viewable for me via the left hand menu 'policies'. Does seem like a bug, and the admin answer to 'log out/log in or 'clear cache' isn't good enough.
The Princess is cranky - I wonder if her tummy hurts, too. I've resorted to putting her in her Moby wrap while I watch the gravy for chicken pot pie simmer.
you're welcome matthew. I thought that vid was amazing. no idea they could cut veneer that thin by hand. well, I now see what you all were complaining about last wk. I am now in the test that shows your shop with no banner. hate it. first time I was able to see it, and yeah, it IS a bad as you all said.
