The darker turned out really nice. I've been itching to henna my hair again and was thinking of going darker or more red. I think since your turned out so nice I am leaning towards darker now.

The only reason I thought of it was because henna stains the skin and actually lowers fevers some how ... If I ever get a fever you make a small ball of red henna that is mixed with water into a thick clay like paste and place it in the palm of your hand and allow it to sit for 15 min and the fever breaks.
there are medicinal properties of herbs that have been extolled for centuries but black henna is a beast I'm not quite familiar with. it's still the same plant family just a different variety.

for me though if you have a paste that is visibly staining the skin and hair some of it is getting into my bloodstream how ever minutely and my body didn't like it at all.

my father in law was a POW in WWII (now deceased) so he did share some stories with his family.
my dh was in Vietnam and i know more stories about it than his family does.. but he didn't talk about it mostly because most people in the US didn't want to hear about it.. :o/

I know...really terrible how the Vietnam vets were treated when they came home. Thanks for the comments, guys. Kind of proud of my dad. He's not the macho soldier type. He was a short guy with glasses who became fatherless at age 5, so it's a miracle he survived the army.

Cute felted pup, Rachel! Looks a tinch morley-ish. Certainly the lifting of the leg part. In my studio, on my STUMP. Grrr.

Happy 4th to those that celebrate it! Busy couple days here. Hubby invited a *few* friends over yesterday for a get together at the creek, with many musicians from many musical venues. It turned into a totally fun bluegrass event with ten musicians, standup bass, mandolins, banjos, guitars and was the most fun I've had at a party ever! About 50 people were there, along with some extra dogs and kids, and didn't break up till well after midnight. Just got invited to another event today for the kids, and I don't think there's any studio time left, but I work so danged much it's a welcome break!

We were in a store last week and Big Rock Candy Mountains was playing over their sound system! I couldn't believe it....had not heard that since I was a kid. I started singing along and my hubby told me about how his mom always hated the song. I think it was the cigarette tree thing that she didn't approve of. Or maybe that line about where "they hung the jerk who invented work"

i have this set of drawers from ikea, and the drawers are screwed onto the tracks. so, the second-to-bottom drawer just got stuck on something poking up from the bottom drawer, so i had to take it off the tracks, and there, on the "floor" of the unit, was a little manilla envelope, with a little ziploc bag, with a little piece of gold...
