I've gotten so used to using millimeters now that I mentally envision sizes but it took a while. I do try to give measurements in both for international customers and those in the USA. Sometimes I'll just put the mm and then in parenthesis that 25mm=1 inch.
I sorely would have been tempted with a snarky reply though.
I think you should send him that message! I just use metric and in parenthesis inches. My husband is European and he got tired of converting for me so he bought me a clear plastic inch- mm ruler. I must have bought a hundred rulers when my kids were in grade school but could I find any? Of course not!
I give both, with inches as the primary and mm in parentheses. It's really easy to convert while online - Google will do it for you! Just type in (for example)
1.25 inches in mm
And it converts. I use the search bar at the top of my browser, and it gives the answer in the drop-down so I don't even have to open another page to see it.
That's really funny. Jewelers tend to use both systems interchangeably, right? I always give bead sizes in mm, and lengths of necklaces and earrings etc, in inches. I like the "blame Reagan" response though.
" Who the hell uses millimeters in the United States??. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Every jeweler in the country!!!!!!!!
I stopped using inches unless it is a pendant over 1/2inch in either height or width. Guess I should but how many inches is a 3mm diameter round diamond that is .05 carats- some things just need more accuracy
