Bangle making question.

Good evening fellow metalsmiths!

I have a quick question. A lady has asked me to make her a bangle for a small wrist, 2.25 inch diameter, so I will want to use around 6 inches right? the bangles will be hammered. Does that sound correct? The customer also wants a bangle at 2.5 inch diameter. Thanks ahead for any help.

Re: Bangle making question.

2.5" is standard. You know how to find the circumference of a circle? Pi x D so, you take the diameter of the bracelet, 2.25, and multiply by 3.14 = 7.06" but you'll need to add a bit to compensate for the thickness of the metal so I'd add a few mm and then adjust once your bracelet has been rounded out.

Re: Bangle making question.

for the circumferance of a bangle or a ring you do 3.14 x diameter plus the thickness of the metal you use. in this case 3.14 x 2.5 + thickness. but if you hammer the bangles, they will be a bit bigger than that, so maybe don't add the thickness of the metal. Try to make one and then see how it goes...
