How to get art into galleries?

Hey all! Im now a full-time artist and would like to get my work into galleries. Has anyone done this regularly? If so:

1. How did YOU go about showing gallery owners your work, and
2. How did you approach them?
3. Is it usually 50% commission for the gallery or more?
