Didn't have chance to play yesterday, was out trading at Darlington Eco fair, was great.
Couple fun facts for you, especially for those in the USA, I think!
I come from Darlington, in the North East of England, we had the worlds first steam powered passenger and freight train, for moving people and carts of coal from the coal mines to be shipped out. (Officially opening in 1825)
There was also Darlington Forge Co. formed in 1854 and they built parts of the Titanic and Olympic! Many people from here don't know the history of the place!
I now live 12-15 miles west of Darlington in Thornaby, my house is build on the old WW2 Spitfire airstrips, there is concrete WW2 bunkers 1/4 mile from my house down the woods....There is so much history to be found if you look for it! Feeling chatty today, ha..
Do any of you come from a place with interesting historical background or even current goings on? Love to hear about it!
Glad you had a great time! That is so cool! I would LOVE to visit England some day. Absolutely fascinated by steam power and other forms of hydro energy -- my eldest went through an intense phase when we learned all about paddle boats, mainly traveling the Mississippi River. Not far from where I grew up (Kansas) there's a museum dedicated to the steamboat Arabia. It has amazing exhibits. The Arabia sank in the 1850s and was recovered in the 1980s and the cargo is all on display.
