Cognitive dissonance.

Selling my art has been quite an adventure for me and I seem to have found my niche after a long time of promoting and getting my art out there on the internet. I am a very diverse artist and my problem seems to be that (being a single, working mother of two young boys and a chaotic life in general) I cannot get enough examples of my abilities and creative spectrum out there. The reason being that I simply have so many orders for the same style and concept art that I am unable (due to lack of free time) to branch out and focus on something I really WANT to create. I seem to be stuck in a pattern of the same style and subject, my feathers, which have become somewhat popular online with a diverse audience. I love the fact that people are so interested in this particular type of design, however I am limited to what I can do and show of my capabilities as an artist because the requests are always the same because the examples I have of my art are limited to my most recent works (I only recently started photographing the majority of my projects). I love the design itself and am grateful they have gained so much popularity but I don't know what I should do in order to get some better, more diverse and interesting works out there for my audience. In order to do so I would literally probably need to put my shop on hold and just focus on creating what moves me, which is to say I would need to spend time creating art that is different. But my customers seem to specifically love this one design and style. I am unsure where to go from here. I need the extra income and am so grateful to have it but it is putting my creative needs on the back burner as an artist and I am having some cognitive dissonance with the whole situation. Here is one of my feathers (and the rest of my requested works and examples shown follow this style primarily as well). Any fellow artists have thoughts? I do pencil, charcoal, ink, paintings of all kinds, and oil pastel work. I love mixing my medias and am having a hard time with this even though the success of it all enthralls me at the same time.

Re: Cognitive dissonance.

I definitely think you should take the time to work on some other styles if you feel the need to. You can stick your shop on vacation for a week or two in order to create the time you'll need to create. You may lose some sales, but you might end up increasing your sales in the long run.

Re: Cognitive dissonance.

Thank you for your input. I think that with the high order volume I have already and having taken my shop on vacation before for quite a period of time and picking back up business just fine that may be ideal at this time.
