Advice on International Shipping

Hi All, 

We are planning to start selling internationally but not quite sure what is involved. Do any of you already ship globally? If so do we need to worry about how taxes and VAT is collected? We are based in the US and not sure if we need to register for things like a VAT ID when shipping to the UK or other countries. We only sell small pins that don't weigh very much. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi I sell tins which go in small packages not envelopes which is what I imagine is what you are sending pins in, not sure if all this applies to you. But from my experience, you don't need to worry about custom duty and VAT. The buyer is responsible for paying those. You don't need an ID. The price for international shipping has increased dramatically over years. I end up eating some of the cost otherwise it's not worth it to buyers. Especially when they have to pay customs duty and VAT on top of item and shipping. You do need to fill out and attach a customs form to your package. Good luck!
