Unable to create authorization

I've recently upgraded my 'puter to Win 7 and now I am unable to get Zetsy authorization.

Instead of the log-in window to Etsy, I get a pop up with "unhandled exception... The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

I've tried reinstalling, logging out of Etsy in the browser, different browsers - all to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Unable to create authorization

Win7 should be a good thing because that's generally what I run on. I just tried reauthorizing on my WIn7 32bit machine and it went with no problem. Etsy appears to be having some issues this afternoon when I looked at the forum. Hopefully its a glitch on the Etsy side. The authorization is sensitive to the timestamp as well. You only have a little time to complete authorization. Is your computer set to the right time? That may also cause a problem. I would try it another time and if you still have the issue let me know whether you using the 64or 32 bit version of Win7 and we'll continue the troubleshooting.

Hi,

I've tried again, still same thing. I'm using the 32 bit version.

Thanks

Hi Wooly... Question: you kept your data and moved it to the new Win7 install? Did you cancel access on Etsy at all and now trying to re-authorize?

Re: Unable to create authorization

GraGra questions are good ones and will help in troubleshooting.. Another things to try is to go to Settings ! Program options menu. In the middle of the screen on the left side is a button that says Clear Auth Token.. Push that and you'll see a warning message about losing private access. Just ignore it and continue (You don't have it anyway). This clears any authorization codes on YOUR computer and sets it back to the pre-install state,

Re: Unable to create authorization

Since it is a new installation (after reformatting) there should be no authorization anywhere on the computer. I did cancel Etsy authorization and also cleared the token via the software - still no go.
I had similar issues with the program crashing previously on XP but I did manage at the time to get authorization. Now, I can't even get to that point.

I'd appreciate any more ideas as I would LOVE to use it, especially for changing my tags and such.

Thanks

Re: Unable to create authorization

Please try http://www.tools4etsy.com/Developer/Etsy/v2/Api/Samples/OAuth and see if you can Authenticate and retrieve your details - it's build with the same communications library.

Yes, I was able to authenticate and retrieve my details using your link. Still no go on Zetsy though.

Re: Unable to create authorization

Thanks for trying the link. It gives us a clue. I'm working with GraGra to figure out a solution. This probably is not it, but what time zone do you have your computer set to? I want to set my computer here the same way.

Re: Unable to create authorization

I live in Israel and my time zone is set accordingly - UTC+2 (Jerusalem).

I should mention that it was set that way on the XP too, but I did get authorization then.

I appreciate your help, guys!

Re: Unable to create authorization

I can reproduce the error your having simply by offsetting my computer by 10 minutes. If it is delayed by 5 minutes it works. The biggest difference between the tools4etsy site and zetsy is the latter uses your system clock. Check your computer time and then do the following. Go to control Panel -> Clock, Language -> Date & Time -> Set Date and Time -> Look for the tab that says Internet Time -> Look for the button that says <Change Settings>. This will bring up a window that says configure Internet Time settings. My current computer has this checked for Synchronize with internet time server. Make sure this is checked on your computer. My current selection is time.windows.com . I' doubt if this makes a difference, I think it just chooses where to check the time. There is a button to the right that says Update now. I would push that button. This should insure you computer's clock is set correctly. Try doing authorization again and lets hope for the best. I'm working on a better way of handling and recording these errors but that won't fix this issue for now - hopefully this does. Let me know if this works.

Re: Unable to create authorization

I did as you suggested and it worked. I've obtained authorization.
There is one catch though...the server gives the wrong time for Israel - we are on daylight savings time since April 1st and it shows the standard time - i.e. one earlier than current correct actual time. I am thinking that this probably explains why the software crashed so often for me when I tried it before on Win XP, and that it will likely keep on crashing for me unless I repeat the process (change the time to what the server thinks it is) each time before using Zetsy and change back when I'm done. I can live with that for now, but obviously this is something that needs to be addressed on your end.

I'll play with it a bit and let you know if indeed it is a problem that continues unless I have the time synchronized with the server (i.e: wrong..)

Thank you so much for solving this!

Re: Unable to create authorization

Update - I do indeed need to keep the clock synched with the time server to be able to upload successfully any changes made to the listings. I've just done that. Wheee!

Re: Unable to create authorization

Thanks for working with us and getting this resolved. This kind of debugging ultimately makes this a better program (after some pain of course!). The next version will have better error detection of this issue now that we know it exist. The time issue itself is part of the Etsy code, so I'm not sure what we can do about that with a desktop program other than detect it and make sure the clock is synchronized (Thanks GraGra for helping out), Eventually I would like to also have a web-based program, but that is down the road.

Re: Unable to create authorization

I'll post here as I'm having a similar issue with authorization. When I try to log in to get authorization the page just refreshes with the login blank, not signed in, and no code to be found anywhere. At first I though I used the wrong password. When I tried using a different password it told me the password was incorrect.

I cleared the tokens as mentioned above. I tried the above link to gain authorization through the other app (which worked). I tried checking my internet time and it is set to sync with time.windows.com. I am using windows 7 and firefox. I'm not the most computer literate person so it's probably my error somewhere. I should also add that I have some pretty heavy security setting on my browser which I did not set up (auto clear cookies, history etc.). Not sure if this would affect anything. I'm also not sure if I am using 32 or 64 bit. Not sure how to check this either! Thank you in advance for your help, this app sounds tremendously helpful and I would love to use it!

Re: Unable to create authorization

I was out of town the last few days and just noticed your comment today. You do not need authorization to download listings. Can you download your listings without any problems? It is possible that your security settings could effect things. If you can download listings that tells me that at least your security is allowing that part of it. I will check things further on my end tomorrow night.

Re: Unable to create authorization

Thanks! When i first tried the other night it didn't seem to work but tonight I was able to download listings.. Almost everything I do I get an error message that says "unhandled exception." I hit continue and the page (in this case, a tag batch edit) will open. I can't actually upload anything to etsy without authorization from what I understand, right? Still having the same issue there. Thank you so much for your support and patience!

Re: Unable to create authorization

At my workplace which has extreme security I do get an error with simple listing downloads. All the listings have downloaded so I'm not sure why the error. Are your listings downloading too ?
This does not happen at home. Under Tools there is a Check Etsy operation. It would be useful to know what that says,
If you press control and Print screen buttons at the same time you can save it and then send it to me in a convo.
The real issue is that you can't authorize. My understanding is that when you begin the authorization process you don't see ANYTHING on the screen? I have a walk through on the website http://zimpro.co/ZetsyTutor1.html. This a bit different now in this version but you should still see "An application is requesting ...." If not, that tells me something is blocking this from appearing. I'll look into some alternatives into authorization in the next day or so. I'll see what happens at work too. I have problems with all kinds of programs at work because of the high security settings.
