Bugs! What to do if you encounter an error

Bugs happen! They are frustrating to both you when you encounter them and to us trying to fix them.
Starting with the 2.4.22 version (Apr 22, 2012) the program now has additional capability in reporting errors. To create a better program we ask that you choose one of these methods if you wish to report an error. There are two methods:

(1) All errors are now sent to your My Documents | Zimpro | ErrLogs folder. When you run the program errors are collected and sent here. You can send the files to us at Zimpro@Live.com with the subject of Zetsy Log. This is a text file so you can see what is being sent if you desire. This file is automatically created when an error is encountered.

(2) If you have an internet connection that is usually on, find out your IP address from whatismyipaddress.com (or there are lots of others) and convo this IP address to me. Then Goto Tools:Program options and look for the checkbox that says "SendErrors". Check it. When you encounter errors the program will ask if you want to send those. Just state Yes. All of the information in the errorlog file is sent automatically. No email is needed!

I've tried doing what you said about reporting bugs and I can't find the file. I try to download info and it says there is an error, and my computer locks up and I have to restart it. What am I doing wrong? I'm starting to worry if there's a virus somewhere in this download. Help!

It does sound like you are encountering a major issue, my guess in that it is trying to create the error file and fails. Before downloading does the program start-up correctly? If it does, goto Tools : Check Zetsy operations. This runs through several of the operations and checks to make sure everything is running correctly. Does it state that everything OK? If not, please report what checks are missing. If everything works here, go back to the main screen and uncheck Download all available listings. You will now see a list number appear. Try downloading one listing. Were you successful? If you were, try 10 listings. Let me know what you find out

It seems like it uploads the program Ok, but that's it. In the Zesty operations it only got 3 checks everything else is apparently a problem. The 3 checks I got are: Active List Download, Shop Info Download and Appears as an Administrator.

It does not sound like a successful program authorization has occurred. This is needed to do any task which are considered "non-public" by Etsy. This is for your protection. To check on this, on the main screen you should see on the bottom a key and Priv Access. Also under the Check Zetsy operations it should say " A possibly valid access token is here. Part 1 is" and this is followed by a long string of characters. If you haven't set-up the authorization under Help | Topics | Program setup it will go through the steps necessary. I did this last year so the program shown will look a LOT different but the steps are still the same. If you run into any authorization issues let me know.

Hi - just attempting to install and run Zetsy for the 1st time - thought it was downloading, said it was, and to wait - nothing happening for the last hour... bottom LH corner I have a symbol with the message 'Private Access is detected'... what do I try now?

There appears to be some type of startup issue that I'm not encountering.
A good place to start is the Tools| Check Zetsy as explained above in this thread. This checks most everything and sees if any major issues are encountered. I was able to download your public listings in about 2 minutes and I didn't encounter any errors. (These are your shops public lisitings (not expired, inactive, etc.)). If the checks re OK try the following: I would select just the active listings and see if that works for you. Are you getting any feedback on the bottom task bar, where you see Priv Access? As the program downloads there is a progress bar which tells you the number downloaded and the listing ID. You can also stop the download progress by hitting the download button (which should say cancel now. You can also uncheck the download all listings and select the number you wish to download. Pick a small number and see if that works. Let me know if any of these tests work.

I went in and did the authorization. I tried to download my current listings and it pops up with an error: "Download Failure. Not valid listing type has been selected. Please choose at least one listing type to down load." And then it locks up my computer. My computer is acting really slowly and funny now. I've been trying to type this message for several minutes, but my computer keeps locking up and not responding. This is a new computer and I've only started having these problems since loading Zetsy, so I don't know what to do.

ok - the original screen had hung up, and I had to crash it... I re-opened the prog, and the private access message bottom left had gone [and is still gone] - anyway I did the test thing, and we seemed to get somewhere - I had checks in the relevant boxes, the correct date and time, and I seemed to link up ok with the shop in etsy, copied verification code etc... now it says 'a possibly valid access token is here' with a long number... nothing has been downloaded, and as before, if I hover over Download I get a message saying download is in progress - when it obviously isn't - I only have active listings + the boxes on right, selected... I then tried clicking on download and I now have a box which will not go away saying 'download failure - no valid listing type has been selected - please choose at least one listing type to download' - it just beeps every time i click on it... and I can't do anything else on the zetsy screen until i can lose this box... starting to get irritated...

Please get back to me soon - I can't close the window at all, and can't now access something else on the desktop - as soon as I get back to desktop and try to click my windows explorer, this zetsy screen pops up instead - its driving me nuts...

I've sent convos to both you and Helen about this error. I believe this error only occurred on new setups and the nature of the error was it locked the program into an endless error loop.
For everyone else there is a compatibility setting called "async operations allowed" Under nearly all circumstances this should be on because it speeds up operations and allows downloads to be cancelled. The error occurred ONLY with this option OFF (which is why I missed it!).
An easy way to know if this is on is that when you download the <download button> switches to Cancel - and you can cancel the download.
In any event I just uploaded a new version to fix it. This should download automatically upon the second opening of the program.
