Scrap Wire

Soooo I've recently learnt the basics for wire wrappig (please excuse any missig letters there are beads under my laptop keys) and I wanted to find something to do with all this scrap wire. I could put it into the recycling bin bt I'd like to do something more efficient with the scrap, I'm using copper wire by the way

Re: Scrap Wire

Hold onto it, someone will want it in time. Everyday new people become excited to start making wire jewelry. Give the wire to an enthusiastic friend or aquaintance. I hope that helps!

Re: Scrap Wire

Thanks but just to clarify this isn't a whole spool of wire this is just the little scrap pieces. Probably more suitable for melting down

Re: Scrap Wire

I'm not sure about copper, but with silver and gold filled, the wholesaler I purchase in the jewelry district will purchase back the scraps , so I save it in a little bag.

Re: Scrap Wire

When/if you move to sterling or gold filled wire, those little bits will add up and can be turned back into the refinery for cash or more wire. Silversmiths often save their sterling t0 melt into balls or for casting. You could maybe melt it down and put it through a rolling mill or make some ornamentation but for me, it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Re: Scrap Wire

You can use small offcuts (1/2" upwards) of wire for making figure of 8 chain and/or jump rings, just save them all up in a tub until you have enough, then have yourself a chain making bonanza :)

Re: Scrap Wire

yep that idea about making figure of 8 chain and / or jump rings sounds cool, I usually try to use every last piece of wire too.

Re: Scrap Wire

Thanks guys :) it just feels like such a waste throwing away metals like copper and brass no matter how "cheap" they are to some
